Heating Oil Rustling!

Recommended Posts

Just looked at Claret's Chicken Rustling Post and it reminded me of a conversation with some neighbours last night :D

They are both in the Police force and said that there has been a big increase in houses having their heating oil stolen.

We are in rural Worcestershire, I would imagine its going to be nationwide due to the hideous rising cost of oil  ( as with electric, gas, etc  )

Only thing to do now is work out how to secure the screw top lid on the oil tank

Need to put a padlock on the lid i think.

Aaahhh, well since my first posting I mentioned this to my OH pondering the way to lock the cap.....

He said....Don't be daft they are not going to mess about are they.. - they will just drill a hole at the bottom and syphon it off that way :lol:

I'm with you on the price of it though Christian, when I'm over the shock I might order more and fill her up - its not going to get any cheaper

we have had this here as well, a friend had it all taken after they had it filled with £700 worth!! .

i think they must be following the tanker around. they must have a tanker of their own. a neighbour wouldnt question a tanker would they, they would just think you are having another delivery.

what is the world coming to?????

Dont forget the price is always a bit cheaper in summer - thats when you should FILL your tank. When it starts to get nippy again the price shoots back up.

I have enough now to last till the sumer, TBH I prefer to throw wood on the fire and just warm that room - I walk around in fleece lined jammies and a fleecy dressing gown as well as fluffy bedsocks. Mum's bit of the house has electric storage heaters.

People are wary of our house anyway as we have a large GSD X (soft as anything but they dont know that)

Having said that we can't afford to fill out tank anyway. The way prices are going it may be more worthwhile our getting a stove fitted it always seemed too expensive before.

Bronze, our house is identical to next doors and we always split the oil delivery. If we order over 1000 litres between us (nearly always 1000 litres each  ), we get a discount.

They fitted a log burning stove last year, where as we still have the open fire. They use the same amount of oil as we do!

I think they are fantastic in a medium sized room and heat it up nicely, but they were hoping it would heat the house. It doesn't. :(

our woodburning stove heats our old five bedroomed house. we rarely have the heating on and our gas bill is £9 a quarter even in the winter (we dont have oil here). you need to keep the fire stocked up and shut the doors to rooms that you dont use and it is a bit chilly in the morning but i dont mind because i think about the money we save. the wood we use is waste from my husbands business so we are lucky with free heating.

bronze we often have loads of wood spare and give tonnes away in the winter, if you did get a logburning stove and can collect you will be welcome to some.
