Guest
Ham in Coca-Cola Based on the Nigella recipe. With this version we're not bothering with the 'crust' because the ham really will not be around that long to bother. Ingredients 2kg Gammon 2 litres Coca-Cola 1 Onion, peeled and halved Put the Gammon in a very large Saucepan and poor in the Coca-Cola. Add the Onion. Put the lid on and bring to the boil on the hob. Leave it bubbling gently for 2.5 - 3 hours. Serve immediately. Or allow to cool and keep it in the fridge.
Richard and Jo
I suppose the sugar in the coke coats the ham. Is it tasty
Guest
Its absolutely DELICIOUS! Great for Sunday lunch, then cold in sarnies the next day (if there's any left!)
Lavinia
I have also tried this recipe and it is absolutely gorgeous. I am using it again to do a cold buffet.

Paola
This is my first time in this part of the forum (I am ashamed to say ). The ham sounds gorgeous and very easy, which is a bonus as I burn salad. Will be giving it a go
PurpleHen
WOW I did this yesterday for us, My M&D and my Aunte - they all lvoed it and it was incredibly easy. I couldn't fit the gammon and all the Coke into my largest pan at once, so I just kept topping up - only used half the bottle in the end, but it was fabulous. I would encourage everyone to give this a go....
Cinnamon
Sounds Yum - I will do one this weekend
Spuddy
And for dessert why not try some pears poached in Lucozade

Cinnamon
Well,I cooked this yesterday & it was a huge success I also made the Sweetcon Pudding that Nigella recommends to go with it,& it was just delicious. Has anyone used the coke/ham juice to make the black bean soup that she also mentions? Ham sandwiches for lunch today
Paola
I have started cooking this for the kids dinner but I only thought that it needed cooking for an hour
chrisnrob
Try the version with Cherry Coke from a later book - it's even better With that she recommends cooking red cabbage in the left over Coke and I can vouch for that fact that it's delicious too! Chocobo
I made this today for my mum, dad and brother- they were very impressed- but I made a smaller amount than in the recipe I only used a 625g piece of gammon, It was cheap to make, and my brother whos at uni wishes he'd discovered the recipe earlier this year.. Thumbsa up to it!
chrisnrob
Did you do the Coke or Cherry Coke version? Rob
Chocobo
Normal coke- with some chinese 5 spice, mint and stuff in, wanted to try cherry coke but couldn't find any.. wanna try that as well though..
chrisnrob
I think the cherry coke is nicer. If I remember correctly, I couldn't find a bottle of it when I needed it and ended up using several cans instead. I like her insistence that you only use the 'full fat' version too Rob
Chocobo
I had to use several mini bottles as my mum didn't want to carry a two litre bottle back from work..
Guest
I do my coca-cola ham overnight in the slow cooker, and add a couple of chilli peppers to the cola to give it a bit of a kick - it's delicious.
BeckyBoo
wish me luck - I've currently got a saucepan bubbling away to serve to two very VERY sceptical men! Shouldn't have told them it was cooked in Cherry Coke til AFTER they'd eaten it I think!! Mrs B
chrisnrob
Let us know what they thought of it - I'm sure they loved it! Nigella does have some 'odd' recipes. There's a great recipe for sticky toffee pudding that requires you to put the mixture in a dish and then pour over a litre of boiling water! It looks a right mess but sorts itself out beautifully in the oven and is truly delicious Rob
