*mummy_hen*
We have tiled floor so really easy to clean....plus our kitchen has patio doors that open out on to the garden so short of letting them in....they'd have to go back in the run! Cooks
same ehre, I have french doors from kitchen to patio from kitchen so.. well it would be impossible to keep them out of they wanted to go.. and plus I dont mind really. I have a stone floor and they cant do any harm to that. But like I said.. it's a scarey place to them.. I think it's becuase the garden is a higher level than the house.. so they ahve to come down steps to the patio and then through the doors to the kitchen.. much too complicated when they can just trash my plants.. *mummy_hen*
They just potter in and out - specially seem to like the fridge.....maybe there's an alterier motive when they pop their heads in the door!! Must admit - with OH working till 9pm tonight, is nice to have a bit of company!
Chickvic
Opal is the only one who does that in my house! Quite likes jumping onto low shelves and trying the cat food Ruby used to come in and finally got the hint, Opal just keeps trying!
Ali B
We have to barricade the doors. All 4 hang around the back door, trying to get through the cat flap! Luckily, the cat flap has a magnetic lock, or I think we would be swamped by invading hens! We have some wonderful stand-offs between the cats wanting to go out, and the girls trying to come in. I'm thinking of getting some sort of child gate to put in the conservatory door, otherwise we'll be confined to the house for the summer. Betty, Olive, Elizabeth and Jane the Boss AND introducing..... Lily and Louella, new today!
bronze
If mine started coming them in I would start encouraging them into a nice warm place

ebaygirl
Buttercup (RIP) used to dash in and grab as many beakfuls of cat food as possible before being shooed out again! Rosie was never quite so bold, but I did find them both in the lounge once. And only once! We resorted to a stairgate at the backdoor so that we didn't pass out from the heat in the summer. Cat not so thrilled though.
Hen Huggers R Us
This made me laugh ours have always followed us in to the house but we have just fitted a wooden beaded curtain at the back and this definately keeps them OUT! they don't seem to like the clicky noises the beads make. ..lay a little egg for me
A friend of a friend had a chook come through the cat flap, up the stairs, on to the spare bed and lay an egg on the pillow...while her sister was still in the bed!!!! No fresher breakfast egg anywhere!!

No fresher breakfast egg anywhere!! OMG - LOL's Must admit we're going to be putting a gate on the side of our house soon as the novelty of trying to get into the kitchen before the chickens has worn off a bit. Should be grateful that we've only had 4 of the 6 in though I suppose
Snowy
I used to let mine in the kitchen, but this was going a bit too far: Especially when they started commenting on the state of the dishes
Cooks
that first one looks like she's just completed the washing up and is asking if there's anymore.. bless! I love those photos!
Egluntyne
I just can't cope with the idea of them pooing on surfaces where food is likely to be prepared.
Ain't Nobody Here
I love that second picture - she's gorgeous (and looks a bit like an ornament ) Mine don't bother with the door .
Snowy
I just can't cope with the idea of them pooing on surfaces where food is likely to be prepared. I know That's why they are now banned! I never expected them to jump on the sides
Cooks
that's why I dont own a cat.. because they jump on surfaces other than that I LOVE cats. My chickens would never ever be allowed close enough to the actually working area of the kitchen... my kitchen is huge unfortunately (takes ages to clean) so they have no risk of that, as they are always supervised. *mummy_hen*
Mine weren't on the sides, just milling around on the floor - personally i don't have a problem with them in there as they can't do any harm....i don't prepare my food on the floor!! AMO
Ours came in last summer and sat under the breakfast bar watching us cook dinner - wish we had filmed it as they looked like they were discussing what we were doing
cathybc
I just love these stories and pictures - I would never have believed it before I got the 'hen bug'! Mine have so far ignore the cat food, even though is it the expensive stuff. The cats have so far ignored it too, mind
