I love growing veg and flowers but sometimes your comitment is tested. After raising about 2 dozen peas from seed and nurturing them for the past weeks I discovered that the slugs had last night eaten every single last one! Looks like Birds Eye are back on the menu this year.

why dont you try again? you might be able to find some more plants

You always have the odd disaster but it makes you appreciate that crop when you finally get it.

 

Keep on growing for every disaster there are many successes(sp)

You poor thing - i know just how you feel Keep going and try to find the slugs to give to your chickens (I did that the other day when a slug ate my borlotti beans then slept it off nearby

I've just fed the two cheeky snails living in my greenhouse to the chooks. Came home from hols to find they've munched their way through a whole tray of cucumber seedlings

Thank you all for your sympathy - the kids laughed, hubby said oh well did you get some paper for the printer? my best friend said "Oh" but I knew Omlet people would understand Now feeding slugs to the chickens well I may just have to give them one to make me feel better

Mine are still in trays before going out..... and I shall sow some more this weekend.......

I have to say I use thick gardening gloves, a torch and a plastic bag, tightly seal it and lob in the bin

I used to use a trusted technique for the 6" monsters in my garden.

 

An old, sharp knitting needle and a torch - slug kebabs !

 

 

Since I've had chickens we haven't had slugs....yay chickens!

Seriously, I also use copper tape aound plants and the edges of pots, with a sprinkle of crushed eggshell around the plants themselves.

 

I still have some pea seeds if you want some more.

Ohh cutting them up I dont think I could do that - could I? Ive done the head torch and bucket routine (much to the embarrassment of my kids and hubby) put all 63 slugs into big bag of garden waste thinking they would have a ball. Next morning not one left all the trails around they had just gone back to the garden I didnt realise I could still sow seeds thats good news - and yes Im always up for a growing challenge Maybe Birds Eye wont be the only option this year. Claire i have messaged you.
