Phonix
Was just wondering if anyone had one of these?? They had a huge stand in the middle of Williamson Square in Liverpool advertising the Green Cone by Recycle for Liverpool so i found the website: http://www.greencone.com/home.asp?lang=1 BUT of all the councils taking part in supplementing the price of one of these - should be £69.95 - none of the Liverpool Councils appear on the list! So much for the mass advertising and direction to that site and also this one: http://www.recyclenow.com/compost/ on which i cant seem to work the part where you put in your post code and see if they have reduced prices in your area! Argh!!! Rant over! lol (sorry i posted this in 2 sections as i wasn't sure if anyone would see it in the 'green thinking' bit and im not really sure where it fitted it??) Janty
I haven't seen these before. We use the bokashi composters plus the normal bins. By the way, 'Hello' to a fellow Liverpudlian. I used to live in Anfield.
abwsco
Not heard of it but just checked and the discount for us would only be £7.95 so I'm afraid I won't be buying one.
ajm200
We've got a wormery and 3 big composters. I've heard of these before but haven't got anywhere sunny to put one and also worry about rats being attracted to it if conditions aren't optimal. Guest
My parents had one of these YEARS ago. Near killed my dad digging the hole for it apparantly. Which is why Mum said not to buy one now!
Phonix
hmm maybe not a great idea then! Janty one of my friends lives in Anfield - im afraid im not a real Liverpudlian i just moved here from Cumbria for uni BUT i love it! x
AmandaR
Yep, it takes the best part of a day to dig a hole big enough to part bury the green cone We had one but the water table in our garden was too high and so it kept flooding in the bottom resulting in a stodgy stinky mess rather than compost When I called the company for suggestions on this problem (as it wasn't mentioned in their literature), I was told to make a raised bed for it! I like raised beds but to show off plants not a whopping huge cone! I ended up freecycling it (warning people first about having to dig to the centre of the earth to be able to use it) and bought a green joanna instead. I much prefer my green joanna - it is the same principle as the green cone but sits nicely on top of the ground
Shirl
So can you put chicken bones in it . Sorry I mean left from Sunday lunch not from my girls. It's about the only food item that goes in our bin. Between 6 dogs and 7 chooks there's nothing left
Egluntyne
I looked at these only last week. I opted for the **Green Johanna** instead. It seems well made and was easy enough to put together. Made me smile as I used to go to school with a girl called Johanna Green.
Lesley
The Green Johanna is still £87 in the Warwickshire area
ali-s
I've had a green cone for three years from my local council, it cost £10 It worked fine duing the summer months but stopped working when the weather got colder and OH had to dig the half rotted food into the garden I now use a Boskahi bin and then put the resulting fermenting waste into the green cone. The green cone finishes off the process nicely I would like to take the green cone with us when me move but OH said no , never mind our new place has a green cone already but two would have been better I've not heard of a green johanna, must go and have a look. Back from recycle now, and the green johanna is £74 in my postcode area.
Blackrocksrock
I bought one subsidised for £10 too but realised it had to be dug in so deep and we have clay soil and gave it away to a friend for lots of large buckets for growing potatoes instead - barter system. surferdog
Our local council are currently offering these for £10. Thought about it but, as I have a NE facing garden, don't really want to dig up the patio to accommodate a big green cone! I was also worried about rats and now about the only thing that goes in our compost bin is onion skins and teabags (oh and loads of hemcore and chicken poo of course )
Willow
No discounts in our area - I tried asking our council as surrounding councils offer it but they won't. My mum has one in Ireland and swears by it. They don't have door to door rubbish collection (too rural) so she has a major incentive to recycle as much as possible ! I'd like one but I'm not going to pay full price for it. Although with the chickens, cats and composting there isn't a lot that would go into it...
