Jobs!

Recommended Posts

Ive just spent my whole morning (when not on the forum lol) applying for millions of jobs...

Im a student so I need something for the summer - i do have a part time term time job but my boss (who said i coudl have more hours over the summer) has cut my hours to 5 a week  !!!!!!!!!!! So i suppose i don;t need to say that im massively annoyed so trying to find another job which is horrid :(

I wish i could spend my summer doing just 5 hours but as i don;t have a student loan i NEED a job and more hours (my boss doesn't seem to get this :( )

Anyway...it just got me wondering who works and what jobs we all have???

I suppose I was just wondering if there are any careers that are popular with chicheny people!?!

I don't work anymore. I used to work in IT and although the money was good it wasn't something that i enjoyed. I was in it purely for the $$

I keep thinking about trying to become a teaching assistant when I do go back to work but suspect that I'm not highly educated enough so might have to do a lot of study before I can even start the training.

I'd become a veterinary nurse but I couldn't bear to see animals suffering. Years ago someone I knew had to give it up as it broke her heart to put animals down and see some of the sorry case of neglect that came though their doors.

I hope you find something suitable soon

Good luch with the job hunting Phonix.

I don't work either, i used to work for Next, running the childrenswear department. Now i couldn't work even if i wanted to, the most i'd be able to maage is about an hour a day and even that wouldn't be guaranteed  Not exactly employable, am I?

I don't work, gave up when I had the kids, but the youngest is 10 and soon I will have to enter into the big wide world.

I have been taking computer classes for the last few years in readiness. I sort of want to work but it worries me. What I'll do if YS is ill (just been off school since last thursday, only been back in today) etc.

I think I need a good dose of confidence

Now my daughter is a uni student and she is going to be working for a large company that runs graduate type schemes during the summer. She did a few days for them last year, work experience type thing. Then had to fill in an on-line application form with a test attached. Then interviews. She passed and starts at the end of June. She will be earning really good money. I think you might have missed the boat on this for this year but what about applying for next year?

I don't think I've helped much - sorry :?

But good luck.

I'm a good old dinner lady :D at a boarding school. It is hard work :lol: I work 37 1/2 hours a week but sometimes this goes up to about 50 hours or more if there are functions at the weekend or weddings and christenings.

The school is open in the summer holidays as a summer camp for children between the ages of about 6 years to 18 years from all over the world. A few uni students are taken on in the kitchen then and more are taken on as helpers at the summer camp. The summer camp helpers go out on mini expeditions camping or a few days sailing in the schools sailing boat. They also go out on day trips around the area. It is paid work and you get accomodation and food free.

My son Jack is thinking of applying as a camp helper next year, at the moment he works in the kitchen on a Saturday and Sunday evening for 3 hours. He enjoys this and the pay is not bad

When I was at uni I signed up with agencies in Liverpool and Runcorn for the summer hols. I worked mainly in the factories in Runcorn...MFI, Steripak, etc. MIght be worth giving that sort of thing a go. They always need student workers in the holidays and the pay wasn't too bad.

Good luck,

Jan

By the way, I am a teacher and assistant head of a middle school.

Good luck with the job hunting. :D

I'm a self employed chartered accountant and also mark for chartered accountancy exams (got 500 papers hitting my doorstep tomorrow... won't be on here for a while!).

Planning for a family at the moment so if it happens I'll be giving up the accountancy work and concentrating on the marking twice a year only.

Argh, I know how you feel, I didn't think I would be so poor with going to Uni :( !!

I'm a unit leader for retail at a theme park (Camelot if anyone has been!)

It's a good outdoorsy job with lots of people my age. And the petting farm is good fun haha, get my daily dose of the baby chicks!

Ive applied for so many jobs today my head;s spinning from sales to call centres (incoming NOT cold calling - i hate that!) to anything admin lol

Google maps has never seemed so useful! I've had to google where every job is as im not good with Liverpool as im not originally from here and then find a journey planner so see if its feasable on public transport as i don't have a car!

Hi my daughters are both students. One at uni and one just to go. They both have jobs, my 21yr old works for Gap with hours to fit and my 18yr old is to start at a local restaurant when she finishes her A levels next week. Restaurants are quite good over the summer as often they are busy and also regular staff need hols. It might be worth trying. Also how about checkout operator. My youngest did that up until recently when she stopped to spend more time on revision. The pay is okay and you also get discount instore at some places!! good luck anyway. :D

I worked in Morrisons when I was in 6th form (i was 17 and had had a job as as admin assistant before that but the contract ended  ) and stayed there for my gap year, it was ok at the time but i wouldn't go back - looking back they did take advantage of my need for hours... oh well its in the past now

What are you wanting to do when you graduate? My husband and I run a recruitment agency and it's amazing how many people don't get any work experience in the field they want to go into while they are a student.

Good luck with your hunt. I'm a retired teacher (aged 34!) and got plenty of work experience as part of my course. As a student I was in a TA band and did catering for touring cars and a track club. Try and do something you will talk about to your kids fondly - not like when I worked in a carrot factory for a couple of weeks after GCSE's
