I stumbled across this site whilst researching veggy gardening which I seem to do a lot these days.

I'd not heard of it before, it really cheered my evening up

 

It basically involves people descending on an unused piece of urban ground in the dead of night and planting flowers and generally tidying it up. What a great idea! How to rebel against the authorities in a nice and productive way

 

I might give it a go! I'd have to start with my own front garden though before the Guerillas descend on me!

I have read several articles about them over the past year or so, & I think it is just brilliant.

That's great, I know most of those places. It's wonderful to see people who care about the bits of London that are otherwise just wasted and full of litter.

There was a feature about Guerilla Gardeners on the One Show recently. Technically it's vandalism (I know, I was surprised) but it's unlikely anyone would prosecute!!

 

Not sure where they got the plants from, maybe they know a friendly nursery that is willing to donate stock that is going over a bit?

That's one of my faves Kev - I just love the idea of brightening up some of those drab places.

 

We're lucky in that Banbury takes place in the towns in bloom awards, so every nook and cranny is crammed with pretty planting and flowers.

I think its great that they do this to areas that need brightening up. They were on a show once and showed you how to make a seed 'bomb' for places that were hard to reach.

There is a bit on their website where you can donate money and tell them what you want it spent on. They also take donations of plants and tools.

They are great aren't they. I heard the main guy that started it on the radio some time ago. There was one lady that started looking after a roundabout somewhere else and the council told her she could only do it with a fluorescent jacket on or stop doing it - which is what they really wanted. Our roundabouts are bricked over with lots of weeds - I prefer the pretty ones.
