Paola
OH flew off today to Italy on business Just had a call from him saying that he has arrived safely and that his business contact does not want to do any work today, so they are going to spend the rest of the day in Venice OH has never been to Venice. They weather is gorgeous over there at the mo. As it is such a romantic city, he is on strict instructions not to hold hands or kiss Nicola (man) Clearly a hard life

Tina C
Clare - are you in the wrong thread now??? Edit, yes, sorry - shouldn't answer the phone in mid-post have deleted it now. Thanks Tina I love Venice. OH took me as a surprise when I was 3 months pregnant. I needed the toilet a lot but we had great fun exploring (and we both read Death in Venice before we went, but not Don't Look Now )
Tessa the Duchess
I took my mother to Venice for a holiday, many years ago now. We had a wonderful time exploring and also spent a lot of time just sitting outside cafes drinking coffee and eating yummy pastries just people watching. It's lovely to be in a place where there are no cars Tessa
Tina C
Forgot to say we went when there were all those fuel strikes back home, which we thought was funny - we were not inconvenienced at all. Also did anyone else feel a bit seasick when they returned to solid land? OH and I felt the world was swaying when we got home. (Edited because I think faster than I type - thank goodness)

Yorkshire Pudding
OH has been sent to conferences in Venice and Rome so far this year. For once one of them was in a school holiday so in theory I could've gone along - but we couldn't afford it this year . Next year there is talk of sending him to Japan. Not fair! Shirl
I love Italy. The OH and I go every year. We were there less than a week ago on the Adriatic coast. It was gorgeous. I've only visited Venice once and I have to confess it didn't do much for me but each to their own. Now Rome that's a place I'd love to visit again. Clash City Rocker
Now Rome that's a place I'd love to visit again. I'm in Rome next week, part of a weeks cruising. We've decided to travel independently around the city rather than with a Guide from the ship. Are all the major attractions within a walking range of each other or will we need a taxi to get around the sites in an 11 hour (very long) day ashore ? Goosey Lucy
Rome is fabulous! We went a couple of years ago having left the boys with their Grandparents. Lots of lovely things to see and wonderful places to eat Mmmm.
Ain't Nobody Here
Lucky thing . We went to Venice years ago and loved it. It didn't smell a bit, contrary to popular belief! I'm in Rome next week, Are all the major attractions within a walking range of each other or will we need a taxi to get around the sites in an 11 hour (very long) day ashore ? We also went to Rome and had 4 days there. We walked everywhere and managed to see all the major sites. If you look at a tourist map and plan your day well, I think you should manage it. You'll have to miss out a few but there are loads of the major sights round the city centre area. We're back there with the kids in 3 weeks' time for one day & two nights - so let me know how your 11 hour speed attraction visiting goes! We'll need to do the same!
