Hen on superglug (pics)

Recommended Posts

Well, so much for ladilike behaviour. This is by far my greediest chicken -- Boudica. She seems to have gotten tired of little sips of water and flew up to the top of the superglug for a full head dunk.

Yesterday she seemed to be firmly on the bottom of the pecking order, but today with her greed for food and water, she's rapidly upturning the system and getting quite bossy... and quite creative!

... okay, I'll stop posting photos of my hens now. I really am getting carried away, and you kind people cannot possible be that interested in another woman's chickens. I am soooo vain!

My Biccie is the only chook I've seen perching on the Glug. I thought from the beginning that she was top chook and that this was one of the ways she showed it (one of the others was being last to go to bed).

However, I've had my doubts since then. Some of the feathers where the tail begins seem to have been pecked (broken off half-way rather than pulled out entirely). In a way she might have invited this as she's the one who will always run around bragging about having got hold of some treat.

We need Chicken Psychology 101!

My Roley Mo looks similar to Boudicca - she is a copper black maran hybrid. She is very greedy! She follows me round the garden singing at me for food. And she has worn patches on her back and has lost some feathers from her head - she always hogs the treat bowl by jumping up at me and landing in the bowl, so as I put it down, the others all land on her! :? A real character though!

Boudiccs is very pretty 8)

My Hubby has made me a Superglug cover for mine, as the hens kept sitting on top of it, & of course pooing in it

Its a bit of solid clear plastic, drilled with holes & set at an angle,so they can't get a grip on it

Oh, I'd love to see a pic of that, if you have one... for now, I have just put it up a couple rungs higher. Hope that is discouraging enough for now.

Here you go.

This is the front view. Its simply too slippy for the little monkeys to grip on to 8)

There is a big gap at the back,so its still dead easy to fill.

Hubby drilled 2 holes into the plastic then used plasic ties, the sort that slip through & cannot be undone,to attatch it to the wire of the pen.

Its a fair bit wider than a single Glug, as I often have 2 Glugs out on very hot days,or if we are away for the weekend.
