Blackrocksrock
Is this poisonous as my hens are stripping it bare? I am now worried
cluckbok
Hi ya, Well mine stripped my fushcia bush bare the other week, I was so at them!! It was a small bush that had started to bud small leaves and they ate the lot down to twigs!! I have now fenced that area of the garden off My chooks have been ok since. I don't think Fushcias are posionous. Someone else may have an idea.
KateP
I'm pretty sure they aren't poisonous as my two girls stripped a lovely fushcia bush that I had last year and they were fine afterwards!
TAJ
Mine stand on a pot and even then have to jump to get my hardy fushia - it may be hardy, but certainly not chicken proof! Tracy
Tessa the Duchess
Weird, but I have two fuschia bushes and my chickens ignored them. Tessa
Purplemaniacs
So far mine have ignored my fuchsia bushes too, perhaps there is something more tasty
Blackrocksrock
Thank you for your replies - I am relieved to see other hens eat them too and they seem none the worse - they flit between bushes and all the small and possible tasty leaves are eaten! Valkyrie
You might have elephant hawkmoth caterpillars (they can get huge, with big "eyes") on the plants - they munch quite a lot of leaves, so the hens probably were attracted by the tasty protein first!
