Electricbarbarella
Sorry for more stupid questions but I have just bought a metal dustbin (£25 ow) from B & Q and looking at it realised I need one of those elastic clip thingys to make sure it is rat proof, what sort of shops sell them, what are they actually designed for? Also in a metal bin is it opk to keep the food in the garden as I don't think it will fit in my tiny shed/outhouse which is already full of bikes. Cooks
you can normally buy bungee cords in pound shops/cheap shops very easily.
Ain't Nobody Here
B&Q sell them too. I got mine from here although unless you want a few it's probably not worth buying them online.

Guest
I got a whole load of them from the Kleeneze catalogue, they were a tenner but theres loads of them - I use them to secure a cover over the run! Louise
dancing cloud
I keep all my chicken stuff including food in 2 metal dustbins in their yard. I've not clipped down the lids in any way and have not had any problems with rats - can they lift dustbin lids? I used bungees to fasten down a light tarpaulin over the run to keep out light early in the morning (helps keep it dry in the current monsoon season too ) and got them off ebay, as I never have time to actually go out and shop for things. Gamebird
There could well be a strain of super-rat but I really don't think it would be capable of getting the lid off a metal bin. Unless there is anybody who knows otherwise. Something chewed through the lid of one of my plastic bins (squirrels ) I used for horse feed but I have never had a problem with metal bins. However, foxes are capable of removing metal bin lids.
Egluntyne
I use these cords not so much for preventing rats , but to stop the wind blowing the lid off......which has happened before now.
Gamebird
I use these cords not so much for preventing rats , but to stop the wind blowing the lid off......which has happened before now. I keep my bins in a shed so I never thought of that.
