Chook n Boo Mum
Hi All, My friend and I had booked to take our daughters to Majorca for a 5nt "bucket & spade" holiday while our sons are at Scout camp. Found out yesterday the apartment is no longer available due to flood damage & condemned wiring! (we are convinced there is more to this than meets the eye as we've been unable to contact the chap for weeks - all telephone lines dead & no response to email, but that's another story!) Any recommendations for a cheap & cheerful self catering apartment, preferably in Cala D'Or area? Has anyone used travelrepublic.co.uk or similar company to book through? We have our flights still as they were booking independently. This is all new to me as we don't travel abroad - DH hates airports!! - & the New Forest is so much easier to book up!! I hope one of you lovely people will be able to help me in my hour of need.... Disappointed children is just what I don't want! Looney
So sorry to hear about the apartment that you had booked. I hope you won't have lost any money? I'm afraid I don't have experience of booking via travelrepublic or similar, though hopefully some clever person on the forum will have useful advice. Fingers crossed you find something
Chook n Boo Mum
Thanks Lorna, fortunately Liz had paid by Barclaycard, so they are going to refund us and chase the owner of the apartment for the money. Still a bit scary though, having got the flights & nowhere to go! We are both trawling through various sites looking for suitable alternatives at a price we are prepared to pay at this relatively short notice! Had it just been Liz & I, we could have taken pot luck when we arrived , but with a 7 & 8 yr old, we can't take the risk of kipping on the beach!! Mind you I couldn't see Liz & I taking up that option either!! We'll find something I'm sure, but just wanted a bit of friendly advice, which is always available on here! Ange1
Oh dear Sha! I can just imagine how dissapointed your kids must be. I can't help you with your holiday as we never go abroad! Just wanted to give you a supportive hug. <<<<>>>>
Helen&Lee
Have you tried www.expedia.co.uk ? We have always found it a very good site when booking a hotel only.
Jen&Rog
Hello. Don't panic, the internet is brilliant for these last minute things! I also use www.expedia.co.uk or also www.ebookers.com is similar. I've also used www.thompson.co.uk as the large tour companies often have good deals. www.travelsupermarket.com is one of those sites comparing loads of hotels/flights etc, so could give that a try. Not sure if it does self-catering though. Worth a look is www.tripadvisor.com. If I'm ever choosing accommodation independently I always go here because people rate hotels/apartments they have just stayed in - you can get some good suggestions and honest reviews from ordinary people. Then it's easy to click through and book if you want. (I've just done a quick search on this for Cala D'Or and it's brought up loads of info). Good luck - let us know how you get on! Chook n Boo Mum
Thank you Angel, much appreciated hug! Thanks to Helen&Lee & Jen&Rog, I'll have a wander through those sites too. Am going through Travel Republic at the mo & taking notes on various places to share with my friend when she gets home form work later. My bum is numb & I've devoured so much chocolate I'm starting to feel sick! Can't wait to go on holiday..... forget the bikini, I think I need a caftan now! Cinnamon
Got it! First of all, take a look here for reviews on Cala D'or apartments http://www.holidays-uncovered.co.uk/view-units.html?nodeId=10078 Then you can Google one you like the look of,contact them & maybe they will have availability? We stayed in the Esmeralda http://www.inturotel.com/inturotel-esmeralda-park-uk.html Good luck!
fionne
Hi, so sorry to hear about your hol problems. Its awful especially with children they get so disappointed. We always look on the internet and if you find somewhere that looks good go into tripadvisor just to make sure. Its always good to have other people's experiences!! Last minute .com can be excellent. Also use the newspapers. we have picked great hols out in the past. Good luck
redhotchick
I was struggling to find accommodation in Amsterdam once. I was really struggling. Like you I already had the flights. I popped into a travel agent and they found a hotel only for me. I never knew they did that! Maybe because it was a city break? but Majorca is popular. Good luck, hope you get sorted quickly! Chook n Boo Mum
Morning! Thank you all for your advice and support, I knew I could rely on you all! Having spent all day yesterday ( between child, dog, chook, builder & ballet breaks...oh and did I mention chocolate ?!) surfing the various sites which were suggested, we have settled on one, which I hope is ok! I didn't find one which had all good reviews, I think people go to these places & expect too much in many cases, and some of course will never be happy! I just hope it's clean! It's Es Ravells, incase anyone knows it? The recent reviews were good on Trip Advisor. We only want cheap & cheerful, it's cheap & hopefully we will be cheerful!!! We're used to camping, so anything with hot running water without a hike across a field will be great!! Once again many thanks, Sha x
