Do all your chooks announce their eggies? None of mine do, to I have three strange chickens?

yes 3 out of 4 chooks do here. I got cochins as they are supposed to be quiet chickens,....they are very loud egg announcers!

 

We have to run out as quickly as possible to shut them up.

Mine do most of the time, maybe your chooks are just a bit quieter or aren't so much of show offs! I am sure that they are perfectly normal, maybe they will start doing it soon?

Only my Maran Cuivre does it, and not every time. Sometimes the others join in with her but they rarely announce their own eggs.

 

Luckily Daisy is the lowest chook and doesn't usually lay until late morning so her bokking isn't too offensive!

Mine do . Not worked out if it's all three or not though . Definitely Maisie but not sure if it's one or both of the others .

mine don't at all until about a week ago when one has started announcing the other's egg.

I don't usually hear our girls, but this morning Katie was making the most awful racket, and sure enough there was an egg in the nest box! It could also have been the wind in the trees that spooked her, or the fact she wanted something other than pellets for breakfast, or a seagull flew overhead!!!!!!!

Mine only do it once in a blue moon and then only 2 of the current 5

sometimes before laying and sometimes after

 

The first time it happened we rushed out thinking there must be some threat in the garden they others were totally un fazed and carried on pecking oblivious we had to take out a treat to quieten the offender down as she sounded as though a murder was being committed.

Other than that you wouldnt know we had them bless them

Mine don't announce at all, just come back out of the Cube and head straight for the food and drink .

I've only got Esme laying at the mo. I hadnt heard her make any noise at all until one morning last week when i went down to let them out in the morning and heard the most god awful racket, and found a lovely. warm egg in the box, shes not done that since though.

Only once or twice have I actually been 'told' that they have laid. It would make things so much easier if Hermione 'the egg eater' would let us know. Then we may be able to get the blasted thing away from her before she has her mid morning snack!!!

Ruth1, I see you have an Esme and a Gytha, too!

 

Our Esme is the only one laying so far, and she does announce. In fact on Saturday she paid about 3 trips to the laying box and each time she went in there she had a good loud yell but she couldn't seem to get the egg laid. Eventually we had to pop out for 40 minutes or so, so we shut her in there for her to get some peace and quiet to lay her egg in and when we came backv there was a lovely egg waiting for us.

Fenny SHOUTS if she wants to be let out of the run, or if she has laid an egg. In the morning I have to get up early to let her out or she shouts the place down. Barry growls rather than shouts and is much quieter and Primrose has not learnt from the other 2 (yet). I quite like the idea of letting you know that an egg has been laid and being proud of it.

My lot were quite quiet for a whole year.

 

Now, in the old age, they sometimes announce an egg and when they do, they sound like cockerals. V, v loud.
