A chickychickychick-ENN!!
I know it's a little delicate, but has anyone done the 'weeing round the garden' thing to deter foxes and does it work? And does dog wee work, or does it have to be human or lion (I've heard lion dung really keeps foxes at bay!) We currently keep the dog on the patio and the chooks will go on the lawn, but I'm wondering if it's worth letting the dog on the grass for wee purposes! Thanks! Egluntyne
It has to be male urine. My friend swears by **Silent Roar** to keep foxes and cats out of her garden. It does dissolve though eventually so needs topping up.
Helly Welly
We use OH's wee now and then, but never as the only deterent. I'm ever hopeful that the fox can't get over our fence. OH pees in an old milk bottle until there is a sufficient amount. It is then sprayed around the garden with a dedicated sprayer. We have gravel boards all the way around the bottom of the fence so we make sure we spray those in the theory that the smell will last longer as it seeps into the wood. We had a fox in our neighbours garden, and we watched it walk all the way to the bottom without once looking at our garden. For us, OH's wee has been great, and cheap!!! Never get complacent about foxes though, wee on it's own is not enough. Hope this helps
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
Thanks Egluntine and Helen. Does anyone know if dog wee deters as well?
Eggstatic!
Dont really know about dog wee but would definitely recommend human male wee, my Oh wees in a bottle and scatters around the garden every other night.
mrsallen08
I'm glad the OH's are finally pulling their weight with the chicken husbandry! So thats building and weeing on the job list! Excellent!
frenchlayer
We have male dog and I regularly bring him around the chook run with me and positively encourage him to do his big morning wee on their house. Do you provide magazines for your hubbies too, sorry, soo funny, I just asked my DH and he says 'no way' but reckons dog wee is stronger. Old Speckled Hen
Dog wee will kill your grass!!! The only way I could repair the patches of destruction on my lawn was to dig the tainted soil out and reseed.
Angels4
I was at the feed store this morning and noticed they sell "Coyote Urine". I wondered what that oder was!
Guest
How do they persuade the coyotes to wee into the containers?
xChicken04x
How do they persuade the coyotes to wee into the containers? They are more than likely kept inside were they wee on the floor with a container underneath to catch it. I wouldn't want to persuade a wild Coyote to wee in a bottle imagine it "Yoooohooo wild Coyote, could you do me a favour and wee in this bottle? . chickenanne
If you sprinkle around your perimeter fence/hedge repeatedly, be aware that it will smell if the weather is hot and dry (some chance!) for a while. Am not sure how many next-door-neighbours would be understanding of that, TBH.
cluckbok
sorry I'm laughing at your expense! just imaging you guys out there with your little wee sprayers each night! and your poor OH having to get the aim just right!! If it does the job, then why not!! it's free! fortunately we not got a fox prob. Hope we never will!
Helly Welly
Ours has never smelled, altough we only do it once every couple of months or so. We should probably do it more often but OH forgets to pee in the bottle
miffy
Hi, My OH also uses a bottle and puts it around the garden , he also puts it in the compost bin , he then says he NEEDS beer at the weekends to ensure a plentiful supply On a more serious note we certainly get foxes in the garden( they leave their calling cards ) but they dont seem to go near the eglu. We also get badgers, can they be a problem for the girls??
