Nail biting stuff....

Recommended Posts

sorry, not anything exciting, just hoping someone can recommend a good "anti nail biting" brush on product. My 9 yr old really wants to stop biting her nails so that she can grow them and look more lady like! (I've just read the post on applying nail varnish so that reminded me!)

I know there are lots of products on the market but wondered if people have had good/ bad experiences with them.

Cheers in advance! (white chicken)

I can't remember it's name but the best thing I found was a product in a small pot with a sponge in that you put your finger in. It coated the nail and surrounding skin but wouldn't rub or peel off like Stop n Grow. You can get in Boots and Superdrug. If she wants to stop, then she is well on her way, perhaps you could offer an incentive like a nice bright nail polish!

I use that for my girls lizinsa, it's called Nail The Habit! It works well, but you need to use it for a fair while until the brain 'kicks the habit' lol.

:clap: Thanks! I knew it had a 'catchy' name but couldn't for the life of me remember it! It is vile :vom: but worked for me ... actually I lie :oops: when I'm really stressed I still bite them (aged 24)!!!

Can't recommend any of those - I did use the Stop'n'grow on my sons nails but it didn't deter him. He finally stopped when he had a retainer brace fitted to his teeth and was physically unable to bite them!! :shock: It worked - he has never bitten them since! It was obviously on long enough for him to 'forget' the habit :lol:

Prior to using anything on you daughters nails. Why not take her for a proper manicure so she can see just how beautiful her nails can be with just a little TLC? After the manicure and a nice coat of varnish apply some of the recommended anti-nail biting products. That is what we did with my sister (44 and still biting her nails) she now has beautiful nails which I';m able to maintain for her. :D

Oh Yuk! :vom::lol:

For some reason, I've started nibbling my nails again - having stopped for over 40 years :shock: - I'll have to try some of that Nail the Habit :?

Be WARNED Lesley, food prep with Nail the Habit on your fingers will cause all food to taste of Nail the Habit :vom:

So you can either become a lady of leisure until you break the habit again or may have to wear gloves! I vividly remember having to eat the sandwiches in packed lunch using the sandwich bag as a 'glove'

I tried the sponge thing for my daughter but it failed and stop'n'grow has worked wonders - but it does make everything taste of it! I am about to take her for a manicure(at the grand old age of 12 - I was 42 when I had my first one!!) to reward her....good luck!

I bought some stuff from Boots and it's called 'Expert Nail Biting Solution' not a catchy name at all! It works for my son who's 8 and bites his toenails too! :vom:

My daughter does too. It's that she's most upset about as she has ridges all over her toenails where she s"Ooops, word censored!"es them with her teeth and then dirt gets under the ridges, making her look like a street child! I'm going into Boots today with her.

Oh! Help!! - never thought of that!! We're harvesting too much at the moment for me to live a life of leisure so I'll have to wait.
