ValR
What does anyone recommend for putting in the eglu run? My two chickens will be ranging outside for maybe 3 or 4 hours most days, so will spend a reasonable amount of time in their run. I've had some horse bedding recommended, also B&Q hardwood chippings, which I haven't managed to find yet. At present they quite enjoy the soil that makes up most of the run. Great for dirt baths! Egluntyne
Aubiose is Fab. Also Hemcore which is very similar. Both are hemp based horse bedding. As they are super absorbant, it is best if you put a waterproof cover a such as a shower curtain over the run.
cordelia
My run is outside, and since Sunday has had B&Q 4 for £10 wood bark..I think thats what it is...(forrest bark it looks like) in it....chickens happily digging it up to find the grass underneath, smells nice and I'll be able to rake it up and replace it at will....raining like mad, and seems ok still.... It took the four bags to fill, and really could do with another.... Hope this helps..I'd seen on pictures in the gallery that other people used it.. . Mine is open to the elements, except for the Eglu shade that came with the eglu..
ValR
Thanks for these replies. I think another trip to B&Q is called for until I can sort out a cover and some aubiose. I started letting them out yesterday - now they don't want to be in their run! (Shall post a question about that.)
chooklady
B&Q do bark chippings and wood chippings, personally I would go for the wood chippings, I am very pleased with mine and the bags are good value and I use Hemcore aswell. dancing cloud
I use aubiose or easibed in my cube run (whichever I can get hold of). All the best and hope you find what you need
Rhapsody
You cant beat Aquamax in my opinion.
ValR
Well, I've just found the hardwood chippings in B&Q so have bought a couple of bags of those to be going on with. As soon as it stops raining I'll head down the garden and cover the run with them. They certainly smell nice.
Warren
Can astro turf be used in the run? Mine are on what used to be grass, with Aubiose on top, but even with the run fully covered it becomes a swamp pretty quickly. I'm not bothered aesthetically but would the chooks be happier on all or mostly astro? They get to free range for a few hours pretty much every day, weather permitting.
