hillfamily
I've got some spare off cuts of chickeny fabric and a garden full of English lavendar plants..........so I was thinking I could make some lavendar bags :D I know I have to dry out the lavendar in the airing cupboard but what I don't know, is when do I pick the lavendar Am I too late this year I know someone on here will know the answer :D
Couperwife
if I remember right, when I picked lavendar I just pulled the flower stems and they broke off. I suppose that if they break off then they are ready I put them together in a bunch and put the flower heads in a paper bag, tied it all up and hung it upside down its actually still there from last year maybe I should have a look at it hope this helps cathy x
hillfamily
Thanks Cathy :D I've just read that you should pick lavender on a dry sunny day might be waiting a while then
Snowy
Lavender needs to be picked before the little flower heads have opened. Hang to dry or put in the airing cupboard. Strip the little flower heads from the stems and use to stuff your bags!
hillfamily
Thanks Snowy :D I thought I had read somewhere that there was a specific time in the growing season that you needed to pick the lavender - think I might have missed it for this year as all my lavender has flowered although the garden does look and smell very pretty and there are loads of bumble bees :D
Egluntyne
I remember my youngest son making a lavender bag at school for Mothers Day. He presented it to me with the words "Here you are mum......this will make your drawers smell nice"

Aunty e
I picked mine in the summer, before all the flowers had opened (although I think you could probably find some heads that are unopened even if most of yours has flowered), hung it in my kitchen and stripped the heads just before christmas. It was amazing, my step-grandmother-in-law was very happy! If you want to try it, just go for it - what's the worst that could happen? chickencam
My YD made one of these over the weekend we lavender which had been in the airing cupboard for about a week and a half. It doesn't smell that strong but it is still nice

Lesley
Some of the craft shops....and our main supermarket.......sell packs of tiny drawstring bags which you can use for lavender. Ideal for those who don't want to sew them.
Christian
Lesley! I am surprised at you!! Cheating like that. I would never buy bags and pass them off as my own!
