Lucy Died

Recommended Posts

She was always a weak little one was Lucy and I knew she'd check out early.

At the beginning of August she stopped eating and the vet immediately found a heart murmur and was pretty sure a major organ or two was failing. Hubby and I hand fed her on sweetcorn 3 times a day (all she would eat at the time) and more than once we put her to bed and wondered if she'd still be with us in the morning. Gradually though she got her strength back, started eating properly and lived normally again.

Then, like the others, she started moulting, her immunity got low again and despite tonics, ACV and Avipro she went down again on Thursday. We gave her antibiotics but it was too late. I knew she was dying when she didn't go to bed until it was really really dark and it was no surprise when hubby found her dead in the cube on Saturday.

Sad yes but at least she got 4 months of freedom, spending the last 2 and a half with us.

Life goes on though this weekend we've successfully moved the 3 newest ex-batts into the big run albeit with a fence in between. However, Shiraz has already scaled the fence 3 times - I think she's desperate to move in with the Oldies, even if they do peck her
