I only went to buy shrubs, honest!

Recommended Posts

I went to look for some shrubs today at a nursery nearby, which just so happens to have a farm park attached.....I didn't mean to even go inside the farm park and go where the chickens were, and I certainly didn't mean to ask the man there if they had any for sale....honest!!!

Yet I still found myself coming away with no shrubs, but three new girls in a box!!

I bought a Brown Leghorn, a Welsummer and a Leghorn/Sussex cross who looks like she's been sprinkled with icing sugar.....

How will I ever explain this to hubby when he returns from Sweden next time?:wink:

Here is the photo I took as I got them out of the box.....will try to take better ones soon!

I haven't picked names as yet, I will be going to my Swedish name listing to find appropriate names for them!

They came from West Lodge Rural Centre, near Desborough - they are also Meadowsweet agents, and they incubate their own eggs too....they had quite a nice selection and the chap who I spoke to seemed to know his stuff.....

My hairdresser drives down from Desborough to do my hair every 4 weeks, I think that I will have to be fair and drive up to her for a change.........

I love the peck holes in the box!

Another question, how did you up load all those lovely photo, what did you use? Thanks

If you do come up, let me know and we can meet up!! They have a lovely coffee shop there. It's a great place if you have children too!

I uploaded the photos into Photobucket.com and then you just copy the link into your post.

Aaah, Diane they are lovely girls 8) Well done!

But West Lodge! When did that happen! Last time I went they were only breeding the RIR/light sussex hybrids, no other chickens in sight! Sounds like they are trying to meet the new demand for chickens  Such a shame, the boys haven't been for a while ....:wink:

ha ha

I love threads like this.....love the title of the thread!

Me too! I :lol::lol: when I read the post title because it sounds like me and my friend Kate from Glos explaining away a purchase, 'luckily' we're 200 miles apart now :(

Surely he won't notice 'just another few little chickens' knowing most men if you paint the chooks green (not really  ) he'll think they're shrubs anyway!:lol:

oh yes, they are gorgeous! where will they live??? In an (purple eglu) of their own?

They are in their own Eglu at the moment until they've grown a bit, they're really quite small, the leghorn/sussex one still makes cute little chicky sounds! Once they're bigger, I'll eventually integrate them all into the cube with the other girlies....they free range all day anyway so they have lots of room.....
