The Weather Thread

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone

Here in Preesall near Blackpool the weather today has been such a contrast to yesterday.

Yesterday it was like a Summers day with a coolish wind although not strong. Today it has been drizzle then rain all day and only this evening has it stopped but it has become cold there is an nip in the air as I have been out to close up The Henian Castle.

How has it been with the rest of the UK?

Best regards

Glorious here, but have been out to pick up 3 sacks of layers pellets and the pavements are lethal. Black ice everywhere.

Was delighted to see traffic wardens ticketing all the anti-social types who park on the double yellow lines up at Crookes , with no consideration for other road or pavement users.

Hi Everyone

Here in Preesall near Blackpool the day started a wee bit damp but soon cleared up to become a lovely sunny day but with a coolish wind.

Tonight the sky is clear and therefore the temperature will drop so expect a frost unless there is cloud which come in over night.

How has it been with the rest of the UK?

Best regards

Hi Everyone

Where is Preesall?

Well there is evidence that the eastern side of the River Wyre was occupied during the Danish invasions of the 9th and 10th centuries.

Preesall is mentioned in the Domesday Book (1086) as being a part of the Hundred of Amounderness.

The names Preesall and Hackensall are both probably Norse in origin, with Preesall meaning "a hill and a heath" and Hackensall probably deriving from "Haakon", a Viking seafarer who sailed up the River Wyre and set up an encampment in the 10th century.

In 1190 the land was granted to a bowman in the service of Prince John, and in the 16th century, the land, like much in this area, passed into the possession of the Fleetwood family. Richard Fleetwood built Hackensall Hall in 1656 after their home at Rossall Hall was flooded. Nearby Parrox Hall was built about the same time, and has been in the possession of the Elletson family since 1690.

So there is a little history for those of you who say where is Preesall.

It is 20 minutes away from Blackpool by car . It is semi rural and we live 400 yards away from the sea.

Usually the hills which surround us protect us from most of the bad weather unless it come over the sea. Will try and keep up the weather reports from here so you can get a snippet of the weather for a small area of the UK.

Best regards

Well I was doing some research for the Family Tree and was trying to put a little about where we live and its history.

I thought it would be interesting for those of you who see a report for me about the weather in this neck of the woods to have this little bit of information about the history of the area.

Any of you can do the same would be interesting for at other omleteers.

-2 last night.

Let dogs out last thing and the Milky Way was wonderful. Could see it even though the moon is three quarters

All we need now is some Northern Lights.

This morning is clear and sunny and the snow has gone from everywhere save some sheltered, dark nooks and crannies.

Warm as toast with sun streaming in through conservatory windows.

Hi Everyone

Here in Preesall near to Blackpool the weather this afternoon has been sunny and not much wind.

It got colder as the night sky began to come in. Or should I say lack of clouds so expect a cold night.

For me later it is an early start as I have to be in Preston at 07.15 am which means leaving home about 06.30 am. I drive for children who have a disability or special needs to their special schools.

I have to collect the passenger assistant then collect one child from an over night stay of respite in Bamber Bridge then drive to an others house in Barton and on to school .

Afterwards return the passenger assistant to her home then drive back to Preesall. Repeat this in the afternoon collect passenger assistant, go to school and return the children to their homes at night.

So the weather is very important to me as I am out in it in all weathers.

So how has the weather been for the rest of the UK?

Best regards

We have a few snowflakes stuck to the roof of the summerhouse and the plastic cover on the eglu run and our lane was white with frost and snowflakes stuck to it.

The water wasn't frozen this morning though, and we have weak sunshine now.

Having my hair cut later cue gales and blizzard conditions

been absolutely freezing here, minus 2 overnight and very sharp frost which has stayed with us all day as not much sun at all. I look the height of fashion today (not!) in cerise tshirt, with purple knitted jumper over the top, a grey hoodie over the top of that, big pink fluffy scarf and pink stripey gloves.... (I havent been out looking like this though! :anxious: )...layering is the only way I can keep warm.

Hi everyone

Yes I was up early at 5 am got the girls up at the same time they were surprised. Put ther Henian Castle internal light on as it was still dark.

I was on the road a 6 am this morning and back home at 10.40 am after collecting and dropping of the children at school. Then my better halve needed to go Christmas shopping

when I returned so drove her there.

On my return house a quick turn around and back on the road to collect the passenger assistant then the children in wheelchairs and return them to their homes. Then back home just before 6 pm.

The weather was good all day cloud sometimes and sunny the others it was getting cold as I drove home but the grit wagons were out so I know what the weather over night will be cold.

Early start again tomorrow

What has the weather been like in the rest of the UK?

Best regards
