Janty
I've just realised that Ofsted are coming into school on my first henniversary. That's rotten. I was going to make a chicken shaped cake, etc. Now I hate them even more.
Chickvic
I'd still make a chicken shaped cake, just don't give them any! Good luck!
Milly
I agree - make the cake. The staff will all need something sustaining! Milly

Guest
Ok I'm wondering why I don't have a chicken shaped cake tin Spill all Janty! Oh and best of luck with Ofsted - at least you know they are coming!
Yorkshire Pudding
Beaming positive OFSTEd-flattening thoughts in your direction, Janty. In a way I wish they'd give us the call tomorrow and then all the massive pressure and stress of waiting for it would end. School has been so focused on the coming inspection this year that most of the staff are on the point of collapse. Last inspection didn't go so well, you see... Chicken-shaped cake tins? Where? Janty
Make the cake...What is an Ofsted Inspection compared to an Omlet Henniversary? I was inspired by this quote so I have printed it out with a hen design border and I have stuck it up in my office.

We have been the same this term. At this rate we will be lucky if there are any teachers left. I work with hubby so everybody is stressed in our house. He has a job interview on Wednesday though so he will miss one day of the inspection. Hope he gets it.
Tiggy
we don't have ofstead, it sounds terrfing we do have inspections from time to time, reaccreditation for GP training, big gang of folks from the university & GP trainers going through everything
Yorkshire Pudding
we don't have ofstead, it sounds terrfing It is. I don't mind that we have standards to meet, I don't mind that we are checked up on. I do mind that it becomes so overwhelming that people are pushed to breaking point. When it finally happens the inspectors see a tiny sample of lessons and make their judgment on that. Last time they saw 22 part lessons. In our school there are over 2000 lessons each week. Hardly a representative sample! I've been through 3 inspections in my career and never had an inspector even look into my classroom. Our school has vastly improved its exam results this year, which is wonderful if exam results are the thing that we are to be judged on. However I have an inkling that the effort made to achieve this and the focus on driving up results will send the inspectors straight into those lessons where the children who DON'T get 5 A* to C grades are to be found. During our last inspection, one friend (who is an AST) had the first half of her lesson inspected and was marked down from outstanding to satisfactory (grade 1 to 3, and there is only 'unsatisfactory' below that) because her class were late and her starter activity had to be modified. They were late because their PE lesson had over-run, nothing to do with my friend. Seems a little unfair to me.

Janty
I got it from ebay. It clips together and stands on a baking tin. You pour the cake mixture into the tin and when it is cooked, you just unclip the sides and you are left with a 3D chicken The make is GEFU. http://www.keukenlust.be/gefu-chicken-cake-pan-p-6901.html This is a slightly different design to mine. Mine is a hen for starters! but you get the idea. Are you happy now? Can I have my outstanding?
Janty
I must add that I use Lakeland's cake release stuff and it works brilliantly.

Janty
Anyway, bye bye for the weekend. I am going into school to co-ordinate displays with the LSAs. I've only been nagging for displays to go up for four weeks.
Janty
It started today. I bit the bullet and invited them into our food lessons. They are ALL coming in to taste sponge puddings with they Year 7s tomorrow. Ahhhh! Had one observation today. Haven't had feedback yet but the inspector thanked me for an exciting lesson and sent our Head into the lesson to look at all the good work. I'm sensing it was OK! Will update tomorrow. keyhole kate
Okay as a mere parent someone please enlighten me what is it with Ofsted my DD a teacher normally a happy, funny laid back gal but she practically hyperventilates and goes into meltdown at the mention of the O visit. As does my 15 YD who is a pupil I thought they were there to assess the kids not teachers have I got it wrong
Chicken Licken
I think it is horribly stressful for teachers and pupils. I have survived 3 Ofsted inspections - 1 old style, on that put us into special measures and one that seemed to pass me by. More and more they are interested in what the SEF (self evaluation form) sys and whether it matches up with the classroom reality. I think they are due back later this year - Ugh! When we went into special measures some of the kids took it as a personal slight - others delightes in letting us know how "Ooops, word censored!" we were! Bless em. Good luck janty and go with the chookie cake - OUTSTANDING for you!!!
little chickadee
Good luck tomorrow Janty. Glad it's not me! I think it's good that there isn't so much notice now, but it must be really stressful when you find out with that little notice.
Janty
Well, we have finished now. Everything went well. I got my feedback this morning from the inspector and I am really pleased. Amongst other things she said that my lesson was 'great' and that as a mother and a grandmother, she would be delighted to have any of her children in one of my classes. I was so touched, I almost cried. She was really nice and human (sorry to any Ofsted inspectors out there but it's not a quality generally associated with you).
