The Dogmother

Reminiscing for the over 40s

Recommended Posts

It's Friday, it's 5 o'clock - its CRACKERJACK!

Awww, Peter Glaze and Leslie Crowther...............

What about Calimero? A cartoon bird who used to say "heads under wings, beaks under blankets....." It was on just before the 6 o'clock news. Actually, maybe that wasn't Calimero, oh dear, memory is failing badly !!

Ooh I loved Ollie Beak!

My favourite was Pete Duel too, then Roger Smith took over and he had been in the programme twice before - one was a tiny bit and another he was a proper baddie and he got killed before being reincarnated as Hannibal Heyes. I wonder whatever happened to Ben Murphy?

Anyone remember the family saga with the pioneering parents being swept away in a river, leaving their children to fend for themselves? One teenage girl and brother (something Anderson?) and younger twin brothers - think their surname was Shultz, can't remember if there was another younger child.

Laredo with Neville Brand in as a Texas Ranger called Reece and another hottie Peter Brown.

Cheyenne (obviously struck a chord)

The Quest - with Tim Matheson ( ) and Kurt Russell

Wild Wild West with Robert Conrad

Wagon Train with Rowdie Yates and Wishbone - see, there were tons of cowboy things when I was young!

"Book 'em Danno" Hawaii 5 O

77 Sunset Strip - I liked Cookie! I was only allowed to watch that as long as I had some sleep in the late afternoon - I missed quite a few!

Banacek with George Peppard, my hero - OH is smug that apparently GP wasn't a very nice person - no one's perfect, and GP didn't mow the seed heads off a leek that I was nurturing for some of next years crop!!!!

Yogi Bear, Huckelberry Finn, Pixie and Dixie and Mr Jinx

Marine Boy - Japanese cartoon, interesting to note that the Western style characters haven't changed a bit - ie Pokemon/Sailor Moon

OH says I should have gone on Telly Addicts - I didn't watch everything, but they sure got fixed in my memory! Shame schoolwork didn't have the same affect!

Don't remember Calimero at all, only the Magic Roundabout

Now I remember, Calimero used to say 'it's an injustice" in a pathetically wimpish voice. Probably a Scottish TV Production as it was dire !!

Just sitting here watching a male pheasant strutting his funky stuff in trying to attract a female - she's off like a shot !! Go girl ............:lol:

I remember that :D . I was trying to find out what his name was yesterday and came across Calimero but wasn't sure if he was the right one :? .

I often say "it's an injustice" in a pathetically wimpish voice  . Much to my OH's annoyance as he doesn't remember it  .

:(

I wrote to Wilfred Pickles once when I was about 9 [i think]. He used to have a radio programme tracing lost relatives. I wanted to find my birth mother [in those days it was 'my natural mother]. He wrote back saying he couldn't help. I was absolutely devastated at the time 'cos he seemed to find everyone for everybody, except me!

I understand now I'm all growed up.

Oh great - now I have "Steamin' and a rollin' . . ."rattling around my head too!

My brother and I were only talking about the Singing Ringing Tree the other day - I only ever saw the last episode when he was young - I saw lots of repeats but only one happy ending. That evil little dwarf with the huge eyebrows was really creepy.

We liked the Champions too.

UFO

The Protectors

The Persuaders (bought the theme tune)

White Horses - another tune to drive you potty

Belle and Sebastian

Stingray

Captain Scarlet

OH's favourite - The Rockford Files

MASH (my grandad always dissed this - until he saw an episode where Henry was blown up in the loo, and he laughed his head off). Did a marathon watch of the repeats - can safely say I won't be watching this again for a while - we're Mashed out!

This brings back so many memories for me.

".......With Casey at the throttle of the Cannonball Express"

I loved the cards with bubblegum - Man from UNCLE and Batman were my special favourites. Also watched all the cowboy series mentioned, 5 O'ClockClub, ALL the Gerry Anderson series - Four Feather Falls, Supercar, Fireball XL5, Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Joe 90. I don't think anyone's mentioned Mr. Ed yet. I loved that horse so much. A tortoise is still a "Slogalog" (Slowcoach from The Flowerpot Men) to me even now.

Those plastic weaving things (that made a resurgance a couple of years ago). We called them Scoobydoos, but it was probably spelt differently.

Stilts and pogo sticks.

Bayko building sets.

Those sparkly plastic high heel "Cinderella" shoes with elastic to make them stay on your feet.

OOPS! I think the theme tune to Belle and Sebastian was "White Horses" - it was another dubbed programme that had this lovely Pyrennian Mountain Dog - always wanted one after that, and it had the gorgeous Lipizzaner horses in it. The tunes are all coming back to me!

Someone round here has an orange sporty hatchback with the registration JOE 90!

Oh yes, Mr Ed - he's a horse of course!

My Favourite Martian was another around that time, and the guy that played the Martian appeared in the film with Jeff Daniels a few years ago.

Robin Hood

How many people say "he was a baddie in Star Trek" when they recognise certain characters?

I Dream of Jeannie

The Flashing Blade - French

Anyone remember Mole - it was so sweet when it giggled. Czech or Italian??

Robinson Crusoe - another French one I think

Hogan's Heroes

No Time for Sergeants

Bootsie and Snudge

The Goons - which scared me a bit

Titch and Quackers

Sarah and Hoppity - who needed scarey movies when this consisted of an evil doll!!!!

Once an Eagle with Sam Elliott

I remember watching the news with the Beatles and girls screaming and wondered why they did because they wouldn't be able to hear the music!

It was definitely two separate programmes. The theme tune to Belle and Sebastien was a simple, haunting song from that lovely, cute little french boy in the programme.

Apparently there is only one episode of White Horses in existence !! AND, the Double Deckers will be out on DVD sometime soon !! Woo hoo !!

Thanks Clootie - I thought White Horses was different - then I got all confuuuuuused! :?

Mum says the pioneer family was called The Monroes

There was another soap called Compact

Emergency Ward 10

Richard Briers and Prunella Scales used to be in something funny - can't remember the name of the show.

Juke Box Jury - is it a hit? or is it a miss?

The Billy Cotton Band Show

Double Your Money (used to loathe that)

Timeslip

Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea

The Man from Atlantis

The Forest Rangers (French Canadian)

Sorry, there's 50 years of TV rattling around!

Weren't the Arabian Knights part of the Banana Splits? They had a few cartoons dotted in between the show like the 3 Musketeers.

Oh - I'm wallowing in TV memories now (and others)...

I loved White Horses - although I have no idea what it was about now! - I was horse mad and remember calling my bike "Boris" (the name of the main white horse) and pretending I was riding a horse!

I also loved Banana Splitsn and the Double Deckers (Peter Firth (Scooter) now plays Harry in Spooks) and I thought I was the only person who remembered Hogan's Heroes...

Tiswas was wonderful on Saturday mornings.

Bobbly swimming cossies and swimming hats bought back horrible memories!! My swimming hat had rubber spikes on - so my head looked like a sea urchin!! - no wonder I am a hopeless swimmer now!
