kez
We let our two girls out for the first time this afternoon. I know we should have waited 5 days, but it was 4 1/2!!! Melody had been doing a dance by the run door for the last 2 days - desparate to get let out. They are sooooo good. Didn't have any problems with them going back. They were in and out like yo-yos. We even managed to pick Melody up for a cuddle. Liberty is a bit quick though, so haven't had a cuddle yet. .

iar fach goch
very brave! I waited a week before letting our girls out, and had fun and games trying to get all three back in for about a week!
bigmommasally
Gosh you were brave I haven't dared let mine out yet. But maybe you've convinced me to give it a go this weekend
Kimbles
You were brave, it is nerve racking. I let my girls out after a week and wouldn't let them out of my sight. I was convinced they would just disappear over the fence even though it is very high. Today was the third time of letting them out - I do it late afternoon and it seems to work well because they have a root around and eventually make their way back to their run. Today I decided to give them a treat of some layers porridge in two small dishes, put them in the run, now they have buried the dishes!! I managed to uncover one but I shall have to root around tomorrow to find the other! Plus I have never seen so much poo! the joys of chicken keeping, its such a steep learning curve, but great fun. Ain't Nobody Here
It's lovely (but scary) letting them out for the first time - I remember it well . Glad it went well .
kez
Too busy playing with them to go and get the camera They've been so good right from the start. Taking themselves to bed from day 1 and coming straight out when I open the door in the morning. I'm just waiting for something to go wrong like one of them manage to fly over the fence
dancing cloud
Isn't it great when you can let them out to play? My ex-batts had to wait a couple of weeks to play out as there was a backlog with the omlet netting to protect the veg beds. I was really nervous the first time I opened the door, but they LOVED it. They'd never seen flower beds or grass before, but they all ran off for a play and a dust bath They now get let out evenings/weekends and take themselves back into their yard to go to bed every night - aaww, sweet!. I've only had one little monkey escape from the garden in four months and that seemed to scare her so much she's never done it again. None of the rest have even so much as looked over the fence. Sounds like your two are very good litle girls indeed Piccies soon?
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
YAY! It's good fun isn't it? Any problems with getting them in, try a trail of mealworms right into the run. Anna x
