Tina C
I have a chunky black/pink Tag Heuer but have not worn a watch for years as I usually have a phone with me and that tells me the time. I think it would be really cool to get a 'vintage' watch from 40 years ago. As others have said, I would be to scared to wear a watch costing that much. Seagazer
I always was slow on the uptake................ oh, you're a hitman? a clumsy doctor? a florist? Clootie - you always crack me up. I think its the combination of your great one liners and your avatar.

KimmyCustard
When we got engaged, OH bought me a beeyooutiful ring so, as he is such a watch addict, bought him a Raymond Weil 'Tango' watch. He loves it. I'm 40 next April and have seen the Ladies version of the RW Tango, one with diamonds and one without! As my birthstone is diamond, I wonder which I'll be asking for?! Try lots on (bit like choosing a wedding dress!) and see what suits you and what you like, then go for it - what a lovely prezzie! Pic please, once chosen. dancing cloud
What a lovely mum I could make myself available for adoption ... Since no one buys me anything expensive I indulged myself in a Rado several years ago. Slim, sleek and minimal, it goes with anything and I decided I would wear it, not just keep it "for best" or as an investment, so it is the only watch I own. I agree entirely with KimmyCustard re trying on lots and picking one you really like - have lots of fun doing so as well Keep us posted as to what you choose, so we can all be

Guest
I have a cheap Raymond Weil watch which I had for a birthday about 20 years ago. It cost just over £100 at the time and Dad bought it for me as cheap watches just would stop after about 2 months when I wore them. It has lasted for years but I abandoned it about 2 years ago for a cheap watch which has NEVER gone wrong! I think I just needed a change but this thread has made me think about digging it out and getting it a facelift with a nice new strap. I was always going to buy a Rolex with my tesco vouchers but I spend a load last year on a QM2 holiday. Mind you I have a load more now.... Then again it's my 40th next year, although I have a major present in mind, trouble is I cant find a 2 week window to get it in anytime before the following Easter (if Mum doesn't book ANOTHER holiday for then.) Perhaps I could get a rolex after all and just save up for the other present - if I book it for Easter 2010 I would certainly have time to save
Bassett
We went shopping today - and Mum very, very, very, very generously bought me a beautiful, gorgeous, amazing, fantastic ROLEX. I LOVE IT and can't stop looking at my wrist, I feel so excited and very lucky to have such a lovely present for my birthday. Thanks to everyone for all the tips, especially Clootie - we finally bought the watch in Watches of Switzerland as you recommended. I'M SO EXCITED !!!!!! ubereglu
I like this watch! It's from this website and was in the Daily Telegraph yesterday. I'm amazed at it being only £15 though. Sadly I don't need a watch.

OH 'made' me try it on and then bought it for my birthday in April! What a lovely husband........................ sighs lovingly. Bassett - what a great Mum and a lovely watch you have! chili pepper
Wow Bassett, how lucky you are. Please post a pic. I am a watch fanatic too and have quite a few really good watches as I've been collecting them for about 15 years now. I bought myself a Rolex last year with some money my Mum left me when she died. I wear it everyday (not when recuing the ex batts though!) even though its expensive, but its so well made and hardy, waterproof too, it reminds me of her everytime I look at it. What a lovely momento of your Mum. My Mum bought this watch for the same reason, she wanted me to have something really special to remind me of her. Cooks
talking of watches, not nearly as expensive as a rolex but means everything to me, my friend sells jewellery and bought a selection of her bracelet watches to my work today and told me to choose one for myself. I have a huge problem with accepting gifts, I always feel others are more benefiting, but she was not hearing any of it so I selected a beautiful watch which I will wear with pride and love for my friend. (but not at work I will keep good old pudsey bear for that) I am truly blessed to have my friend in my life and love her (with or without a watch )
