Oil & Vinegar

Recommended Posts

I was delighted to find that a branch of Oil & Vinegar has sprung up seemingly overnight in The Oracle shopping centre in Reading :P

I have been after trying out some of their stuff for ages, & today I was their very first customer

I could have spent a fortune in there, but was very restrained & just got some beautiful bottles for my Spiced Cranberry Vodka, & a small bottle of Garlic olive oil 8)

Gorgeous stuff - I can see me adding a few bits to my hampers from there :roll:8)

Though I tried, I couldn't singlehandedly keep it going!

Nor could I :(:(:(

There is a shop called Nuggs in Salisbury that is an off license upstairs and an Oil & Vinegar downstairs. I got my Christmas baskets and empty hampers bottles from there as well as lots of other nice stuff for me :D

The one in Festival Place in Basingstoke closed down ages ago, it was always empty when I passed :? Which is prob why it closed down

Same with the one in Bluewater, I loved it, often use to buy a few little bits from there, but it was never busy and I think it must have closed about a year ago now...I don't think it had been open very long either :( .

Hi Christian & Cinnamon

Just as a matter of interest, roughly how much were the bottles? I have 4 kilner jars of goodies to decant in a week or two, & the number of bottles I've recycled is rather pathetic. I will toddle into the Chichester branch later if I have a spare hour or two!!

Did you know there's also an Oil & Vinegar shop in Windsor? At the old station...

I popped into the new Reading Oil & Vineger yesterday for a nosy round. Nice place and very suitable for Christmas pressies.

I spotted some nice looking mayonnaises but could not find a list of ingredients on the jars. I asked the 2 shop assistants if it was made with free range eggs and here is roughly the conversation that followed:

Me: "Is your mayonnaise made with free range eggs?"

1st assistant (picks up jar and squints at it): "Well there's eggs in it yes, it's mayonnaise."

( )

Me: "Yes but are the eggs free range do you know?"

1st assistant: "Oh I don't know it doesn't say on the jar. Does it matter?"

1st assistant just walks away....

2nd assistant (possibly realising her colleague has been a bit rude): "We're not given that sort of information about our products."

Me: "Well it might be an idea to find out as people care about that sort of thing and I would have probably bought some if I was sure it was made with free range eggs."

2nd assistant: "Oh right." Then she too walks away....

Such a shame as it's a nice shop. I've also asked the question via the Oil & Vinegar website but, to be honest, it's clearly not been updated for ages and nor does it include a phone number so I don't expect a response.

Cinnamon, I've just strained my cranberry vodka - it smells divine, but I must refrain from trying it this early in the morning  !!!

When I decant it into my lovely O&V bottles with the corks on, do I need to seal them with wax, or would they be ok just stuck in as far as they go? Never used them before & would hate for the contents to evaporate or leak out.
