millymollymandy
Hi I am looking for honest views of living in Milton Keynes. Due to long and complicated reasons I may be moving to Milton Keynes. The OH is convinced it is a great place to live but I am not 100% convinced yet. I will admit I don't really know the area having only been to the main shopping centre but it seems a bit soulless and one great big housing estate. I would be interested to hear peoples opinions on Milton Keynes and whether it is a good place for me and my chickens to move to.
Snowy
Hi again Mandy! I used to live in Milton Keynes! Only for a short while though - I stayed with my dad when we were in the process of moving from the North West, Dad lived there for over 10 years. Personally I loved it - it is a very vibrant place, lots going on, and with some lovely villages on the outskirts and in the old town area, so it's not all concrete cows Lots of walkways and cycle tracks in between the roads, and lots of green space. My stepmum lived there for many years and my stepsister is still there. PM me if there is anything specific and I'll try to find out for you. BeckyBoo
From a totally biased opinion based on nothing but a fleeting glimpse can I just say that on my first and only visit I got lost and it took me HOURS to find my way out!! At one point I was on foot and could see quite clearly in the distance where I needed to get to so set off on a footpath headed that way, only to find it rambled and winded and twisted and turned and went nowhere NEAR where I needed to be. In the end in frustration I had to cut across busy roads, fields and grassy knolls and do you know, I never saw another pedestrian the whole time? Spooky! (take a map!! ) Mrs B
Minnie the Moocher
I have friends who live in a village about 8 miles outside. They love it.

FORENSICA
Hi, we went there for a weekend and also our friend from London moved there. He is commuting to London every day and finding it manageable. Us personally, we loved it there. I really like the roundabouts and the speedy roads so you get from the town very easily. Also, shopping seemed great, they have everything you might need. It is very close to complete countryside which we liked too. The house areas are well hidden from the biggest roads, minimising the air and noise pollution. And they have excellent bicycle routes separated from roads, which I found fantastic (no risking life as in London) Plenty of nature too! I think you should definitively give it a go. We would move there too, however still feel that it is a git too far. But, it is the modern and well thought through design of the town which we love. Cate in NZ
Can't say that I know it myself, passed through it a few times in the dim and distant, but that's it. But I had a dear friend who lived there for many years and he was heartbroken when they needed to move from there (to Sheffield) for job reasons. I tend to think that places are really about the people you meet there though, if you have (or make) friends or family in a place then you will settle there and be able to put down roots. buffie
I live 20 minutes away in a village. You can live in the centre or in easy reach and be more rural Buffie x

millymollymandy
Thanks for the feedback don't feel quite as worried now. The area we are looking at in Broughton Gate which is fairly new. One good thing if we do move OH said I can upgrade to a cube! (thanks to seeing one at Cathy's fab hen party) Upgrade though is a bit of an exageration as I haven't actually got my first eglu yet! It was due in a couple of weeks so if we are going to move would get omlet to deliver once we moved in else there may be chaos.
deejmum
We live less than half an hours drive away from MK, I love it. There is soo much to do there, especially in Xscape. (skiing, wall climbing, indoor sky diving, restaurants.) There is a great theatre and loads of shops. Really close to woburn as well, which is lovely. Clur
I worked in Milton Keynes for two years and actually thought it a lot nicer than my preconceptions had me believe. The villages around there are lovely and you also have the benefits of the big town when you need it. I worked by Willen Lake which was a beautiful walk and about 10 mins from the motorway, and had workmates in MK itself and they all loved it/ You seem to get much more for your money there but with the benefit of excellent travel links. If we had a meeting in London, my colleagues could get there from Milton Keynes quicker than I could as the ThamesLink trains were so good.
