Gamebird
Take some sandwiches with you and be prepared for a late finish. We didn't get home until 1am when we went to see him in Tunbridge Wells. (and we only live half an hour away). He was hilarious and my face muscles ached for days. Enjoy. Seagazer
Have a great time - hubby saw him when he was younger and thought he was hilarious
Egluntyne
I've seen him before myself....about 20 years ago. My chuckle muscles ached for 3 days afterwards, and we were 1 1/2 hours late getting out. Am taking a flask.
clootie
How was Doddy Egluntine? Hope you had a great evening with lots of laughs.
Egluntyne
Disappointed. We saw it through to the end. 7pm - 12.30am, out of curiosity more than anything. I'm sorry to say the old boy is getting past it. Lines fluffed. Gags repeated. A few pauses where he had clearly lost his way. Strangely, his singing was as it always was. There were two other acts on. A woman in a 1970's time warp....Sibby summat, who was like a singing Mrs Mills. She sang a medley of Carpenters hits and an awful Footprints in the Sand number that she had written ...which ...wait for it.....had been featured on Songs of Praise. Horrendous stuff. Then there was possibly the worst magician to have ever appeared at the Lyceum. Paul Derek. I sat up and took notice when instead of producing doves, he magicked up hens and ducks. A white hen, a light Sussex I would guess, what looked like a Silver Seabright and a couple of Polands. The first interesting part of the night, although I disapprove of live animals being used in this way. I am surprised that Sheffield City Council allowed it tbh as they are usually terribly right on about these things. Inevitably the hens pooed everywhere. The second interesting part of the night was when a woman a couple of rows behind took ill and people started calling for a doctor. Him Indoors leapt forth as no-one else made a move. Turned out she was a diabetic with a pacemaker and she had gone hypo. Doddy thought he was being heckled because of the commotion and the audience in the stalls started booing what they also thought were hecklers, but when he realised what was going on he went into "the show must go on" mode and got the audience's attention back. The paramedics were there in about 15 mins. An interesting night.....but I wouldn't give up a large chunk of my life to see him live again. Lesley
Exciting night then Egluntine? Shame that he is continuing when he really ought to be thinking about retiring - what a let down. Sounds like he ought to go on holiday with Brucie......a very long holiday
Christian
That's a shame Egluntine
clootie
That's too bad, sorry it was disappointing. Just like old Brucie hanging up his dancing pumps, I think it's time Mr Dodd hung up his tickling stick for good. Catches up with us all eventually. Poor lady - hope she recovered. Seagazer
That is a shame, its horrible when you look forward to something and it ends up disappointing. I will admit that I quite like Bruce's stumbling efforts I just can't imagine who could fill his shoes.
MedusA
Sounds like you had an "interesting" if not hilarious time, Egluntine! I hope the poorly lady was OK and the magician takes good care of his chickens and ducks.
Gamebird
Well at least it was memorable, if not for the right reasons. It's a shame he is losing his touch and he really ought to give up before it all becomes really sad (I mean that in the old fashioned sense of the word). jlo
I must admit - I can't believe that he is still going. I remember going to see him in Bridlington when I was about seven or eight and he seemed ancient then - (I know that everyone over twenty seems ancient when you are that age!) That was about 35 years ago now! I remember laughing a lot and pretending to understand some of the jokes!
chickencam
Shame it wasn't as good as expected. I have always found him a bit scarey too. I don't hink Brucie should give up just yet he has had a good go back at the press for what they have said about him. I only hope that I will be that sprightly and with it at his age.
