Lesley
Please help!!!!!! - before I flog my car to the next person who calls, for 2p I've been with Direct Line for a few years now - I've been too busy to check on comparisons for the last two years and have just renewed without checking. This time I was determined to check............ Direct Line are offering renewal for £318 - plus a charge for monthly DDs - with no courtesy car(in the small print ) Checked on Direct Line as a new policy - £249 - no DD charge and courtesy car! Checked on comparison site....... Prices range from £163 to £353 - inc. courtesy car - all other details the same (varying excess level) Almost made a decision to go with one Insurer but then found a review site.............and, basically, all the top Insurance Companies are as bad as each other......very few people would recommend their Insurer......... Most people who are happy with their Insurer have not had to make a claim - people who have had to make a claim do not seem to be happy with the Customer Service........... Is there anyone - who has made a claim - who is happy with their Insurer?????
Joojoo
Direct Line are really bad for that I moved from them a couple of years ago to Yes Car Insurance and whilst I haven't had to claim with them, they were a lot cheaper. Fingers crossed they will be good in the event of me having to claim. I just wondered if it is worth you ringing Direct Line and telling them that you have checked their online quote and can get it a lot cheaper and ask them why it's different and if they can match it? If they can't/won't tell them that you are going elsewhere. They may want to keep your business enough that this will prompt them to come down in price. Hope you get it sorted. Paola
I am with Virgin and they were very good when somebody stuffed me in the back of my car. They also do not charge to pay monthly
Snowy
We were very happy with Saga - they were always the cheapest for us (both cars insured under OHs name as I'm not old enough yet ) When our car was written off they were excellent. Not only a courtesy car, but they sorted out another people carrier for us, and extended the time we had it until we got our new car (had it for about 6 weeks in the end). We only moved because the premiums went up drastically. We are now with Rias - another over 50s company. So far so good, but not had to claim (yet )
Lesley
The Sage quote shows an excess of £350! - I ought to look and see if that is variable. I haven't tried Virgin, Paola - I'll have a look...... ......and I'd like to have plenty of info ready for when I do phone Direct Line - not sure if I want to stay with them now anyway........ Mrs Frugal
I am sooooo happy with Churchill after my claim was finally settled without them having to take the person who crashed into me to court! They kept us up to date with what was happening and gave me a courtesy car while mine was being repaired.
gooner.girl
Don't go with 'Yes' insurance. We have and are making a claim and they are being really rubbish. They have said how much they will send us a cheque for (less then we hoped) but they haven't done it. Must be at least 2/3 weeks now. chocchick
Provident was fine, I have in fact insured for the 3rd year running as they are the cheapest. I picked the cheapest off moneysupermarket. I got a renewal quote via Swindon that was about £30 cheaper than moneysupermarket. Normally renewal quotes aren't that great, OH often ditched his old insurer for that reason. I found moneysupermarket cheaper than compare the market.com and another one I've used before. I claimed from provident for a non fault accident and they were fine and I got it sorted. When I hit a rock I didn't claim on the insurance but found I could get a replacement car through my RAC membership.

Guest
I am in the middle of a claim with Liverpool Victoria. I have been with them for several years now and my claims experiences (not that often ) have always been excellent. This time someone drove into the back of me while I was stationary. I rang up and was told to expect calls from the repair company, the solicitor and a car replacement company, all of which happened the next morning. It has all been absolutely brilliant. Everything has happened from my home and I haven't had to go anywhere to sort anything out. I don't even bother looking at other prices now because I just want to stay with LV. TAJ
I am happy with direct line & their discounts for having 2 car policies with them. They have never included a coutesy car as part of the basic insurance, but have an opt in separate insurance that covers a coutesy car, which we have got. I think this is good, as you only pay for it if you want it. I would give them a ring. Tracy
Lesley
Hmmmm - it's a bit like asking which colour Eglu to choose isn't it? Many thanks for all the replies. My original Direct Line policy did have a courtesy car offered as part of the basic policy - but not now. All the insures people are happy with on here have bad reviews on the review site, so you just can't tell can you? I did manage to get a quote from Saga with a reduced excess so I'm looking at that but will also phone NFU to see what they can offer - all our other insurances are with them and Carl's car is insured with them. The NFU agent we use is only a 3 minute drive away.
cam1
Hi we are with zurich and have no complaints we had a claim last year after some STUPID man drove into the back of my car. Because i had bit of back pain they directed me straight away to the solicitors they deal with and i am glad as i developed nasty whiplash over the next few days. It was all dealt with very quickly, because the garage that they sent the car to could not supply a courtesy car the solicitors supplied a very nice car through a firm that they dealt with. So i have no complaints as yet! Cam mya velma
stoice
I'm with Swiftcover (Nothing to do with their 'click click, not cluck cluck advert - honest) but they were actually cheaper than any else i could find. They are internet only (Although there is a phone line if you get stuck) so their overheads are quite low. Haven't had to make a claim *Touches wood frantically* so don't know how efficient they are but I've had no complaints so far. When you need your certificate you just print it off from your account. All rather civilised.
chickencam
We have been insured with the AA in the past and although we have never made a motor claim we did claim for our frame tent and contents when they were shredded in a storm. A slightly unusual claim but they handled it very quickly and without any fuss

Lydia
There's nothing to stop you signing up as a new customer with Direct Line and getting the cheaper deal. I did that with Esure for years.

riane
I was with Direct Line then the renewal came in a bit steep. So I did a bit of shoppping around and got a quote from Shielas wheels. Rang Direct Line and explained but they couldn'yt match the quote, so I changed to Shiela wheels. Been happy so far!

I did that with Esure for years. Don't they notice that you're already insured with them? Not a clue Lesley! I resigned with Swift cover (not just because they have chickens on their website/adverts/paperwork ) as a new customer and saved another 10%
Lesley
So, I suppose I'd have to cancel the original DD - and then start again? Saga are looking the most promising at the moment - I don't feel old enough to go with Saga just yet though Don't want to! I wanted Sheila's Wheels to come up in the reasonable price range - they didn't I really wanted all the pink to go with my purple Mini Still waiting for the NFU to come back to me - but from her sharp intake of breath, I don't think thay will compare too well with Saga. I'll go and see if i can find bad reviews about Saga - I'm sure I will find some somewhere
Lydia
Don't they notice that you're already insured with them? I expect they do notice, especially when you send them your proof of no claims, but it's perfectly legal. You would have to cancel and then reset your DD though yes. Saga are supposed to be good and I've never heard a bad word.
Hen Watch
Don't they notice that you're already insured with them? I was with Direct Line for years (and they did sort out one claim very efficiently) then I got a quote as a new customer and was shocked at the difference with my renewal amount. So I rang them, they couldn't match it but told me to apply online as a new customer. So I did. However, story moves on as that was last year. This year I used the comparison websites and was EVEN MORE shocked at how much I was overpaying (even with the cheaper DL price). I ended up going with Admiral.com They are not on the comparison sites, but they came out similar to the cheapest comparison company quote. And since I'd heard of Admiral I went with them. Saved £100....... Not made any claims though.
Lesley
Thanks all...... I've decided to go with Saga( ) - the NFU were almost as expensive as Direct Line renewal. I will be phoning Direct line as well though
