Cinnamon
My youngest who is 13 has had 4 teeth removed over the last 2 weeks. The first 2 were fine,as they were very crowded & had short roots, but the 2 removed on Friday had the longest roots the dentist had ever seen on a child her age & took some work to come out. Consequently her mouth is very, very sore. Its waking her at night,& she is on Nurofen 3 times a day. She is also a little swollen on her face. Any ideas how I can help to ease the discomfort & help her heal? She is having braces fitted next week, but the way things are going I can see me having to reschedule the appointment
jackiepoppies
Hi Sarah Poor lass, worst sort of pain The best I can suggest (as an ex dental nurse ) is hot salt mouth washes. Couple of teaspoons of salt in a mug of hot water several times a day. Hot as she can stand it, GENTLY hold over affected area, don't swish it around! Hope she feels better soon. Cinnamon
Thanks so much - I knew I would get some sound advice on here. Now,Arnica? Does it work like everyone says it does? I know nothing about Homeopathy, but am willing to give anything a go really

buffie
Yes Sarah make sure it's Arnica 30c and salt water rinse Arnica is fantastic. Sorry cross posted, so we all agree Buffie x
Looney
Ouch Poor thing. I've used Arnica in the past and it seemed to help. I bit my mouth realy badly last week - I had already bitten the same spot twice and as it was swollen I kept accidently re-biting it. In desperation I tried a sachet of homeopathic teething crystals and it worked a treat to soothe the pain and reduce the swelling!
The Dogmother
Arnica is wonderful Sarah, as is Aloe vera mouthwash (Aloe Dent one is good). I used the homeopathic teething granules on Rosie when she was teething and they worked a treat on her.
Lesley
I used the hot salt rinse and Arnica when I had a tooth removed earlier this year Sarah - it really helped.
Willow
Poor girl. You can also combine different types of painkillers so she can have a painkiller every couple of hrs if she's really suffering. But do get advice from your doctor and be very careful to check that you combine a paracetamol painkiller with a non-paracetamol.
Cinnamon
Right, I am now armed with Arnica & the homeopathic crystals, as well as Nurofen & Paracetamol. I am really hoping that she come home from school feeling a bit better today She was kind of angling for a day off,but I reckon that if she is at school & distracted she will find that it hurts less, rather than sitting at home & dwelling on it
kitbag
ouch!! Before i got my braces on, i had to have 8 teeth taken out!! My orthodontist told me i was only having 4 out, but it turnd out that it was only 4 on that first appointment. I know how she is feeling, bless her!! I found putting ice on the 'gaps' helped me a lot!! xxxxx
KimmyCustard
OW! I had 8 out at once, then head gear to pull my molars back and make space for the front ones to be pushed back. Then got the railway track braces on the top and bottom, plus the head gear........ for 2 years. Then got another sort of head gear to pull the front teeth back, helping along the railway tracks..... for another year. Teeth are straight now! Thank God. Definitely hot salt water, soothes sore gums, lips and throats. Bless her. Kimmy x
riane
I dissolved some aspirin in water and held it in my mouth as long as possible when I had my wisdom teeth out. that seemed to ease the pain a bit. poor thing
Lesley
Another thought Sarah - make sure she isn't rinsing too well, the blood clot needs to stay in place. Take it from me - dry sockets is just the worst pain ever!!! I did that once, some years ago, thinking I was being ultra hygienic
Cinnamon
Thankfully her swelling has gone down now & she seems a bit more comfortable I am making sure she isn't rinsing too much Lesley - the dentist was very specific about that & the holes don't look dry at all. I think the Arnica has really helped, (& I am somewhat of a Homeopathy sceptic,so high praise indeed!)
