Nicola O
After the upset of losing Betty a couple of weeks ago, I've just been out and found Mavis dead in the eglu . She was one of my ex-batts I rescued in Apri last year, and she was my favourite ( don't tell the others). She was such a character. She stopped laying last summer when she developed sterile peritonitus but that didn't stop her carrying on and enjoying life as normal, but the SP cleared up this summer and she was back to normal. She was rather skinny so I occasionally sneaked her in the kitchen for some extra treats, and some days if I hadn't let her in she would come and tap on the back door for her goodies. She had not been ill at all so I guess it was just her time - but she had had 19 months of freedom which is a lot more than some ex-batts manage. We will bury her in the garden tomorrow and scatter Betty's ashes at the same time. Feel like an awful chicken mummy. Nicola.
Groovychook
I'm so sorry Nicola... Don't feel bad- you're having a rotten time. It must be awful to loose two girls in such quick succession. I'm sure they had a wonderful retirement with you. Take care, sending lots of love...xxx
