laurmurf
Go mostin, go - to the rescue! give me a couple more weeks to finish the introductions and there'll be an eglu you can borrow too!
mostin
Go mostin, go - to the rescue! give me a couple more weeks to finish the introductions and there'll be an eglu you can borrow too! I really want to go and get them, they could live in the shed until I can get another eglu, and then in the spring of course once they were all together they could all go into the brand new purple cube that will then be necessary, not just a luxury . Must try more different tactics this evening. I know we have just started a new business and just made a pact not to spend money on anything at all..........but this is chickens . Plum
Good luck Kazaroo. Go Mostin Go Bet he bought them as a present for his wife. Surely no-one who chooses to keep them would be so shallow to lose interest. She probably threw a wobbly and is making him get rid of them. Guest
Well.......they seem to have gone to some lenghth to build a solid looking run for them, so at least some thought must have gone into it before hand! But they just look bored or lost! I'd have them in a shot if I had the garden etc....... Louise
Egluntyne
I think they are old hens that are no longer productive and they want rid. They don't look like juveniles to me. Look at the ginger one at the back...she looks as if she is having a major moult.
Jules.
Hmm. Half of me wants to wizz up there & get them, as they will only be up the road from me- and I did bid on a yellow eglu that was for sale on ebay located in Warrington, but didn't win it, I wasn't really serious ( & would have had to have done a hen party each week to pay for it ). The other half of me thinks these free hens could be full of allsorts of nasties, & I don't have the room for 6 more. I also think they look very well grown for POL hens who aren't laying and my 2 who had their first moult this year didn't look as bad as that poor moulting hen. Jules.
I won't be able to take them as I'm due to get 2 marans next Spring from my friend who hatched some eggs the other week. I'm just being nosy
madchickenlady
Those are much older birds than the seller is willing to admit to They also look extremely nervous. Someone in that arrangement is trying to pull a fast one

Alfred
It does seem a bit strange... however lots of people do take on animals and then decide they no longer want them for whatever reason - totally irresponsible - they then expect a rescue shelter to pick up the pieces. It doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the chickens though. If they are free there is not much point in lying about their age. Maybe they have been pecking at the the scraggy one and the wife can't take the stress??? That seems a more likely reason to get rid of them - and not to admit to... Barkisland
Has anyone found out anything more about these poor girls? At least they are looking for a good home for them. It's hard to say how old they are from a crumby picture - perhaps the ragged one is just bottom of the PO? Mostin did you get anywhere with working on your OH? Haven't spoken to my OH, but I could possibly take 2 or 3 but not all 6. (If he was willing to let me use the eglu he has got me for Chrimbo )
Tweety
I haven't spoken to my OH either but, if he is agreeable to the idea, like Barkisland I might be able to take 3 of these poor creatures if no-one can have all of them. I feel so sorry for them, and furious with the humans involved, and don't like to think what might happen to them if a new home can't be found for them. mostin
Mostin did you get anywhere with working on your OH? I was about to get my way and wheedle an early crimble pressie but last night my lap top died . So money that could have been spent on housing the chicks has been spent on a lap top . I could not have kept them in temporary accomodation for long without having to buy more chicken housing, and I can't afford to buy that now so I'll have to bow out I'm afraid . I hope if the situation is genuine then the chickens get a good home soon. I feel very guilty.
HENthusiastic
Mostin; what are you like You are soooo desparate to rescue chickens! I think you need keeping a sharp eye on, or you'll start resorting to chicken napping any girl that has wondered more than 6 feet away from her home! Think you need to plan your next intake of girles in order to keep your addiction satisfied! ps sorry about your lap top.

Mrs Webmuppet
I think Little Miss Webmuppet is a Henaholic too. We were discussing possibly getting an Eglu or Cube when our wooden coop falls apart and she said how many chickens can you get in an Eglu and how many can you get in a Cube, after giving her the info, she thought for a minute or two and said 'we have to get a cube, then I can have more bantams, I would like some of those toffee coloured ones' Mr Webmuppet just sat and shook his head. Lauraschucksnducks
Right. I have a seperate area set up. My friend lives near them and is picking them all up for me and they are coming here to me. We ahve a large poultry shed and various empty runs at the moment (springs rearing pens for youngsters) so they will all get the care they will need.
