craftyhunnypie
Hi - can anyone advise please? My poor dad has bad psoriasis on his head, which he itches & makes sore. He won't go the doctors, it's a pride thing & he gets worked up going the doctors. He has been using a shampoo called Selsun, but I think it's too harsh & it is for dandruff - not Psoriasis. Are there any herbal concoctions I can make for him to help heal? Perhaps there is something out of the ordinary that would help. Hope someone can suggest as I don't like to see it looking so sore. Thanks, Emma.x
Janepie33
My mum has psoriasis and years ago when it was quite bad,she used to sit in front of an old fashioned sun lamp with a pair of goggles on. It did seem to help. I am sure there must be a modern version available. Not sure of the cost though. Hope you find someting that will help. Maybe a chat with your local pharmacist would give you some ideas. Not as bad as an appointment with the doctor.
chelsea
I have suffered with psoriasis since childhood on my scalp, feet and ears. I use polytar shampoo (from boots or good chemists) I use it about 2-3 times a week and the remaining of the week use normal shampoo. Stress can make psoriasis worse as can seasons of the year/climate etc. Hope it eases for him.
BERTIE MCSQUIRTY
I'm pretty sure that lush do a tablet form shampoo which is good for psoriasis. but cant remember which one so might be worth giving a store a ring
Omletina Kyckling
I've had psoriasis for more about 20 years (since uni years), and it started on my scalp, then moved onto my torso and legs and finally into my joints. Anything with coal tar in (such as Polytar already mentioned) would help with his scalp. I add pure rosemary oil into my shampoo which they say helps with itching. If you can get him to go to the doctors there are lots of remedies available which are stronger and would get it to shift in the first instance so he can then maintain it. I have used various lotions/steroids etc. over the years which have worked to varying amounts. I've tried various natural remedies such as Lush shampoos (asked in store which was best for psoriasis) and they didn't really help. Hope he gets it sorted out, it's not a pleasant condition to have at all.
clootie
Have a look at: http://www.phyto.fr/UK/products1/by_hair_type.html excellent products and all 100% natural, or try good old olive oil (don't go mad with it but just massage in to the affected area leave for a bit then wash out with a gentle shampoo). Guest
I can get horrific psoriasis, and I swear by Dead Sea Salt products - Holland & Barrett sell a variety of them - some are better than others. For my scalp I use the conditioning mud mask, and it starts to clear things up straight away, and within a few days, it's gone. I also use hemp oil on my skin, which works wonders on psoriasis that even prescription creams don't make a difference to.
Cinnamon
My Mum, my little sister & my sister in law all suffer, & I am frankly amazed that both of my daughters have managed to avoid it The tar shampoo is what they all use during a flare up. fowlbird
T-Gel... I had really bad psoriasis on my scalp and nothing shifted it until I discovered T-Gel shampoo. I did try adding it to the water I soak my feet in but it didn't work there or on my hands. Sometimes I get so desperate I'll try anything even prescription creams don't make a difference to. I'm beginning to wonder if prescription creams do anything but make money for the manufacturers...
gracefruit
A mixture of neem oil, avocado oil and emu oil will work wonders. I make this for my mom and it helps a great deal.
poachedegg
Another vote for the Polytar Shampoo - though does make you smell like you've smoked 20 cigarettes - very effective though.
bellekatz
My DD has it on her scalp too. She was born with it but it never really bothered her until a couple of years ago when it was so itchy she scratched it in her sleep and it got infected. The doctor gave her some lotion to use on it - it stung at first but got rid of all the dead cells and funnily enough it has never come back. kez
My mum has had psoriasis since she was a child and has tried all sorts of treatments. She now uses T-Gel on her head. Definately seems to help her.
