Saucepans

Can anyone recommend me a good range of saucepans that are suitable for gas but won't break the bank too much. I am getting confused looking at them as I've had non-stick for a long time but am now leaning towards a good quality stainless steel set. Do the handles get hot though? I have been looking at the T304 range at ProCookI also need to be able to stack them easily. It's at times like this that I really miss my Mum

well I have had my set since 93 when I bought my house and they are stainless with copper bottoms with a lifetime guarantee. Made by Morphy Richards I think.... or am I dreaming?? I cant remember, but copper bottoms for me everytime I love them. Only trouble is they were not a HUGE set, just a deep frying pan and three saucepans, and they are rather heavy. :roll:

 

As they were only a smallish set my brother and SIL were getting rid of some saucepans a while back and I claimed them for extra ones and they are the old fashioned 50's/60's?? enamelled ones with a painted rim? mine are cream 8) and I love these aswell. so I am no use at all am I?? :lol::lol::lol:

 

I dont do non stick unless it's a frying pan of which I have a nice one I bought in t k max think it's breville.. :) I had to have a nice one as I have to give my omlettes care and attention cos they are my girlies eggs! :oops:

I bought a set of Judge Vista pans a few years ago. Needed to replace an ancient set of prestige lifetime pans - very hard to do! But these have been great. Absolutely no signs of wear and tear; come up beautifully in the dishwasher, handles very sturdy and don't get hot. I like the pouring lips and the clear lids with the drainage holes. You can get them in sets and add to the set with different sizes and designs. Got mine from Debenhams. They stack well, but the downside is that the lids don't stack well either in the cupboard or in the dishwasher - but we cope! :lol:

I bought a set of Prestige lifetime (stainless steel, copper bottomed) saucepans second-hand from a friend about fifteen years ago, the wooden handles are showing signs of wear, but otherwise they are as good as new. I don't put them through the dishwasher, but they clean up really easily anyway.

 

TBH, I think most pans these days are pretty good quality, and the key thing for me would be how they feel in your hand. For example, I love Le Creuset but I could never lift one of those once it was full. I'd go to John Lewis or Debenhams or somewhere and just try picking lots up and see what feels right.

Thanks Olly. Sounds like you could do with some {{HUGS}} as well. It's my Mum's birthday today :cry:

 

Think I may drive up to Fleetwood and visit the ProCook shop to have a feel of the pans :)

Well as per usual for me I go for one range and come back with a different one. Ended up buying 2 saucepans and a stockpot in the Pro Anodised range. I could have bought more but was good and didn't -lol They had a matching kettle for the hob and the knives looked really good as well.

oh well done on making a decision! You can always add to the range later on. I hope you cook some delicious things for Christmas in them.

 

Thanks Olly. The peas were a success in them tonight :D and ready sooooooooo much quicker. Am looking forward to getting rid of my old ones tomorrow.

My main 2 saucepans were from Boots they are very like the Prestige except they have plastic handles. My OH boiled one of them dry and the heavy base plate came away a bit after I had only had them for a couple of weeks. The base seemed to glue itself back over the years and I have now had them for about 23 years and they are in really good condition.. My other pans are 2 Meyers steamers one which was a wedding present and is a bit on the small side for a family of 5 and a bigger one that my MIL picked up at a charity shop a couple of years back they are both stainless steel and as good as new.

Our Pro Cook shop shut down recently....

 

Just something to be wary of especially if the website is lacking in stuff as well.

Thnaks for the warning Michelle. Our nearest one is still open but is a bit of a trek. My pans have been dispatched. Think I forgot to say I'd ordered the set - ooops. I also emailed them asking why there wasn't much on the website. They replied saying they're moving so the website isn't showing all stock at the moment.

Ooh sorry to add a little more to the confusion here but I love the Le Creuset 'trivita' - now called Triply iirc - stainless steel pans.

 

They are amazing - I run mine under the hot tap to clean them and the things heat up! You only ever need to use the gas at half heat to cook and mine are over two years old now (not that old I know) but still look brand-new! The handles don't heat up either; we got them from John Lewis.
