Wingclipping - anyone in Falkirk/Edinburgh can help?

Recommended Posts

Hi I need to clipp my girls wings but I have not a clue how to do it - I had many looks at the omlet page but don't feel very comfertable yet to do it myself as we only had the girls for 2 weeks yet. But as I let them free range and they have escaped a couple of times in neighours garden. I don't how we could arrange it but surely we could find a way. Or somebody once mention something about hen parties or something like this?! Well help is needed so anyone out please could you get in touch. Thanks

Bless, I hope you find someone to help soon. I wouldn't like to do it myself, luckily I've never had to 'cos my girls don't seem to want to (or can't), escape. You need two people anyway I think, one to hold the chook and the other to extend the wing and cut the feathers :D

I did consider doing mine, but they are too worried to fly away in fear they wont get their home comforts ;)

I hope you manage to find someone to do it for you, maybe try the breeder you got them from or if you got from omlet, follow egluntines advice.. from what I remember it's set out very clearly.

Good Luck! :)

I admit it is easier with two people but it can be done alone!! (not me! used to work on farm and one of the lads did all thirty on his own!)

When my girls arrived OH held them and I did the cutting. If you open the wing you will see where the flight feathers are and then follow the great pics in Eglutines link!

I've never done it but if you're stuck I can come and hold the chicken for you and give you moral support. We're at the bottom of the Campsies on the Glasgow side, so about 40 minutes from Falkirk (my daughter lives in Falkirk).

There are some folk on the forum who live in Edinburgh I think, if that helps.

Sheila
