ice cream maker recommendation wanted please

Recommended Posts

just had a lovely (hot) home made chilli and could murder an ice cream now but we haven't got any :? I wondered how easy it was to make and would I need an ice cream maker or is it easy to do it without?

If you think I need an ce cream maker, which one do you think is a really good (but reasonably priced) one please?

We had a great ice cream maker. We really enjoyed making up different combinations. Unfortunately we broke the bowl and the liquid began to leak out so we had to bin it. Oh I do miss it and this thread has remided me how much. Now where is that credit card...oh yes it melted at Christmas!! Get one you'll love it! :)

We've got a machine for making Ice cream and it's really good and easy to use :D. Its from Lakeland... Have a look ... http://www.lakeland.co.uk/philips-delizia-ice-cream-maker/F/keyword/ice+cream+maker/product/11506

Definitely worth the money

P.S the recipes it comes with are great too!

I've got this one with 2 freezing bowls so I can make batches of ice cream when we have a fruit glut and it's smashing. It doesn't take up much room in the cupboard when it's not being used and we have a chest freezer outside to store the freezing bowls in too. It makes lovely ice cream and sorbets in around 20-30 minutes and is easy to take apart for cleaning too.

I make my own ice cream and don't bother with a machine. I have tried various recipes but one of the easiest is where you whisk sugar and egg yolk and then whisk up double cream and add it and then whisk up the egg whites and add them, plus some flavouring and then straight in the freezer. You can stir it up again after a few hours but I often forget. I got the recipe from the book "Hens in the garden, eggs in the kitchen". I use fondant icing sugar in it which makes it slightly softer (not exactly soft scoop but doesn't actually break the spoon!!)

I also have a good recipe for ice-cream without eggs, but since getting the chooks, it seemed pointless to make it!

Hi Poet

Sorry its taken a while to post this, had to go get DS from school, see to the farrier, put hens to bed etc etc.

Vanilla ice cream recipe

4 eggs, separated

100g icing sugar (I use fondant icing sugar as I think the glucose in it helps the ice cream not be too hard)

1 tsp vanilla essence (I usually use more than this as I like it quite vanilla-y)

300 ml (or a half-pint carton is near enough)

Whisk egg yolks with half the sugar until thick and pale. Whisk egg whites in another bowl until stiff and then gradually whisk in the remaining sugar (like making meringues). In yet another bowl (I never said it was easy on the washing up :lol: ) whisk the double cream and vanilla essence. Stir the cream into the yolk mixture then fold in the egg whites. Pour into a suitable container (an old 2-pint ice cream container). Freeze.

Here is another one for when you have made meringues as it uses just the yolks

Rich lemon ice cream

225g icing sugar

8 egg yolks

rind of 2 large lemons

4 tbsp lemon juice

300 ml (half-pint pot) double cream

Whisk egg yolks and sugar until very thick. Add lemon rind. Whisk cream and lemon juice and then fold into yolk mixture. Freeze.

We have one.

Not that keen on any ice cream we ever made with it. Makes a nice (although V expensive!) wine chiller.

I can't even remember where the electric part is!

Look out for one in the charity shop.

I have the gaggia gelatiera and love it, but it is expensive to buy. Makes great ice cream and fabby sorbets too, with minimum fuss and effort :D

:D:D We've got this one too :D Expensive but it gets well used. Its about 8 yrs old now & still going strong. cos it makes constant batches I get to indulge in my weakness of scoffing a bowl full most evenings - hence why ive got lots of padding  The strawberry ice cream recipe is making me drool thinking about it  Mine makes a right racket when it churns, does yours.
