New Car - help please!

Recommended Posts

We have a Toyota Aygo, which is cheaper than the Yaris. It is very small ie tiny boot, but it fits 4 adults (and they are large in my family!) I'm always surprised when I see one and see how small it is, as it feels so big inside.

We tend to use it for most journeys as it's fun to drive and small enough to park very easily.

I would have to say Corsa as I am picking up my third one from Peterborough on Wednesday morning.:lol: The first two I got from the Great Trade Centre, which is now called something else and is near Wormwood Scrubs. This time I am getting one from Motorpoint and I would post you a link to their site but either it, or my computer is sulking at the moment. I haven't looked at what other breeds of car they have but they had plenty of automatic Corsas with low mileage and at good prices to suit me so I would say it is worth having a look at their website.

Between me and my OH we've had 5 :o Smart cars! If you don't need more than two seats they are fantastic! Cheap to run, cheap to insure, chock full of extra kit, easy to park and THE most fun.. and you can even get a convertible! I suspect you'll get a cracking deal on an ex-demo model at the moment and there's a Smart garage in Manchester so not too far away (I'm in Wigan so pretty close to you!).

When we swapped our last Smarts, OH for a bigger car for his BloKart and me for a snazzy CZC cabrio, we were really sad to see them go :( I must admit a liking for the Fiat 500 too as they're super stylish, but the price creeps up once you start speccing nice extras on there.

Happy hunting :P

Hondas are great cars, we have an FR-V but love the standard of everything, I should imagine its the same with all their cars.

hmm looked at the Jazz but bit too pricey for me!

I had a Micra, old version several years ago but it was a good sound car with cheap costs (mileage, tax, MOT'S etc). my aunty has one too and said the exact same thing and I like the shape of the new ones though im the sort of person that as long as the car has four wheels and moves its ok lol!

Another option would be a Corsa, great little cars again cheap running costs too. I don't like the pedals in the Corsa - ive test drove one before and couldn't get on with it at all - shame cos they are quite nice cars!

Have fun shopping :D

You just have to get a mini

Think of all that lawyer street-cred :wink::wink:That will have to wait until im actually a lawyer lol

I'm just biased, I love minis

You may be living in Billinge- you'll practically be my neighbour. Send me a PM & pop around for some lemon drizzle cake :Di'll take you up on that one!!!

On the serious side my neighbour has been to Chester doing what you will be doing, & she drove there ( a VW Polo). Im looking at the Fox too because its supposedly smaller but has as much room inside as a Polo but im not sure its one of my favourites!! Did your enighbour enjoy Chester and get a job at the end lol??

My friend has a Jazz & it's really nice- big boot , too.

Well, im supposedly revsing for exams but car shopping research makes for good breaks!

I popped over the road yesterday to the Ford showroom (its tiny just one car in BUT it was the new Ka)

Looked at the new Ka and it is sooo much nicer than the old one and bigger and the layout of the dash is fantastic! Speaking as someone who really disliked the older models, I was won over.

My mum has a Suzuki alto which I hate because among other things its sooo light that a little breeze will blow it off course and the dash is soo unhelpful with the clock down really low and under a legdge! But the Ka seems much more sturdy and as I said the dash layout is great 0 maybe because it was developed with the Fiat 500!

So my short list at the minute to go look at and maybe test drive after the exams and when i find out if Ive got into chester are:

Fiat Panda

Ford Ka

Mitsubishi (sp?) Colt

Nissan Micra

What do you think? Has anoyone had a Colt? They seem like really good value for money but I don't really know anything about Mitsubishi as a brand!

Check the servicing costs with the appropriate garages. They can be crippling and you will need to have it done to validate the warranty. Ask the garages specifically what their hourly rate is and compare the cost of parts.

Good luck!

My Panda was free for the first 3 years :D

Hello,

My Mistubishi CZC is basically a Colt with a folding convertible roof and I love it to bits! If you buy a new one (or slightly used if you're lucky) Mitsubishi have a Service Package which covers all your servicing for the first 3 years for about £150 (I think that's what it was when I got mine last April). This is an absolute bargain as the third service on the Smart For2 was about £200  !!

They've just brought out a slightly different model Colt but I assume the engine etc is all the same. Mine's a 1.5 petrol and is OK on fuel economy.. but if you go for the smaller engines they are pretty economical. I love the interior of mine, it's great fun to drive and it looks great. They're also a little less common than some of the small cars around and I always like to be a little different!

Best of luck,

Paula

Hi Everyone

Have you ever considered looking at the cars that are imported from Japan as you can get some great cars.

As regards spares they are usually available from the main agents and for insurance many of the insurance companies cover them for example Tesco will insure imported cars.

We have had in the past Toyotas via the import route eg bought in the UK. Had little or no problems with them and the parts lasts much longer on them for example the exhaust pipe never needed replacing on one car and that car was over 10 years old. :!::!:

Buy the Auto trader for your area and look at all types of cars them you can see what is our there and what price they are going for.

Good luck in what ever you buy after all it is your choice and not ours.

Best regards

Ian & Valerie

I've had the old style Ka for 7 years and I love it! It's economical (cheap petrol, insurance etc) and very nippy (as long as you don't have heavy people in the back!). I really like the look of the fiat 500, although I've never driven one, I loved the original but with a nickname of a sewing machine on wheels, the originals would never be practical on today's roads.

As others of said, try to get an ex demo because it really does make a difference to the price. If you're looking at the import root, the weakness of the £ may not allow for great savings and some foreign cars' undercarriages are not protected against salt/grit and so be more prone to rust.

Happy car hunting, I'm very jealous 8)

Thanks guys...lots of useful comments and if im not replying its cos im busy looking into what your all saying!

I was thinking of trying to get an ex demo - my parents have had some god deals on them!

Also i'd get a good deal from Nissan because it only a small dealership near us and my dad got his Quashqi(sp?) from there and they're really nice and gave him a good deal even as a new customer but do I want a micra lol!

I'll still be just looking for a month or so yet :-( but it is fun lol!

May go test driving when my exams are out of the way! :D
