My Garden - A Work in Progress *Update 07.04.09*

Recommended Posts

I am planning to do a lot of work on my garden so am going to post before, during and after photos!

I forgot to take some when we first moved in but we have already done a lot of work on the out of control hedge and have taken about 8-10ft off its height so you can imagine how dark and unusable the garden was before!

That is a lovely LONG garden. I am a bit  .

Where are the chooks?

We bought the house because of the fab garden - the house itself is tiny and ugly! the bathroom is 3 x 7ft and has no bath :(

Believe it or not there is more garden below the camera and down the side of the house and the chickens are there by the back door - when I build the walk in run it will probably go behind the blue shed.

8) Ooh, I can see lots of potential secret garden sections in there. You might need a loudhaler to call OH back for dinner if he is right at the end!

we have a bell just outside the back door for OH to call me but he prefers to walk the length of the garden rather than upset the neighbours with the bell... :(

wow, that's lovely: and ideal for sectioing off into zones, so you can have the pretty cottage-gardeny flowers, the veg, the patio, your wildlife area, your woodland-y bit, your pond, your shed, your funky-modern bit, your Japanese zen bit, your Moorish water-garden.... and the chickens! OK, maybe not all those things, but all the same, it looks like it could be a really fab garden - it's already pretty impressive!!

The greenhouse man came today and the greenhouse is wider than I thought so will chop the garden up - it will look like it ends when in fact there will still be 50 feet or so behind the greenhoiuse so I CAN have a secret garden.

Like the idea of cottage flowers! thanks

ooh, look forward to seeing more! How long is your garden?

I've decided I need to do some measurements of mine today and draw up a plan. It's been laid out and planted very well some years ago, but then the house was bought by someone who didn't have much time or knowledge and it got a bit overgrown.

I want to fit in a walk-in run AND a veg patch AND a pond ... I'm sure it's all possible. Are you doing a proper plan, or is it just going to grow organically (no pun intended!)?

The greenhouse is now all done and looks fab :D

As the greenhouse is the backbone of the garden and the biggest structure it made sense to get it in first.

Olly - the garden is 200ft long which includes a bit down the side of the house, the front garden (driveway) adds about another 30ft so its a long old plot but pretty narrow, I am glad we didnt go for a bigger greenhouse!

I have a plan in my head but not on paper, we have veg beds, fruit trees and bushes, a bog garden for wildlife, a walk in run and a storage area to fit in.

We planned our last garden on paper and still made loads of changes so this time we are planning just to see how we go and add bits and see how they fit in before moving on to the next bit.

I want to grow the same as you and also want to start my seeds in there obviously. I have some strawberry runners to pot up too and some potatoes to grow in black bags to get an extra early crop

Its exciting isn't it? If I had an allotment like yours I don't think I would ever be at home!

That's looking great! I've decided to do away with the veg beds at home and replace them with a greenhouse. My home veg beds have been a bit neglected this year - my chickenproofing was a bit too effective! It'll be nice to have somewhere to grow things on without fear of chicken attack, and also to grow some tomatoes and peppers like you!

The middle section of the garden is getting there :D this is where we will live from now on! we wanted it to be ok to use in all weather hence the gravel, there are raised beds down the middle and one side and the other side will have planters on.

I built the walk in run, its base and all the raised beds by myself and my OH moved gravel and soil bless him
