Chicken food

Recommended Posts

Hi there, I was accidently sent some mixed corn instead of layers pellets for my chooks, I just realised yesterday after opening the bag. The chickens were eating growers pellets up until now, unfortunately it's all finished. I phoned Omlet (who supplied the corn) this afternoon and they are sending out a bag of layers which I should receive on Friday. Will the chickens be ok eating only mixed corn until then?

My local pet shop and green grocer stock small bags of layers pellets for a few pounds? Although not as cost effective as a 20kg bag might be worth a try if you are able to get to your local shops tomorrow? Pets at home stock layers near me and so does our garden centre.

I am sure your girls won`t mind the corn for a few days though

I have just found this post (new guy) and was after some advice on pellets... I have just started out with bantams and got some food with them to last for the first week. since going out and getting new pellets they do not seem to want to eat them. Is this just going to be a battle of wills? Any advice appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Ted :D

If they are bantams then they will need smaller pellets; I find that the Allen and Page organic ones (as sold by Omlet) are good and mine eat them. The Smallholder pellets are tiny too. You may just find that they are being fussy and used to their old feed; just cut out any corn or traats and give them pellets only for a few days and they'll get the idea.
