Ygerna
I hardly slept the first night I got my first hen. I completely understand. Wait till you are standing outside in PJ's, with a hard frost on the ground, watching them scratch round as you clutch a mug of coffee for warmth! AbigailGrace
Congratulations, I soooooo know how you feel I got mine this afternoon too and have been fit to burst all evening. I was sorry that it got dark so early - just wanted to watch them. Aren't we lucky? Aww.. Well our choice was to get them at 6 or wait till tomorrow.. But i couldn't wait.. So they are tucked up in bed. I suppose it is kind of good we got them a little later as they were sleepy and won't be wanting to get out of the eglu.. It was quite hard to put the eggport door back on i didn't want to leave them.. And we are very lucky! And i am sure to boast at school tomorrow..! Mazzarina
Congratulations! I hope your girls are settling in happily. I have a , , and too, and they do look so lovely together. Occasionally when I'm having trouble sleeping, it's hard to resist going down into the garden to have a peek at them through the eggport, all tucked up and cosy. AbigailGrace
Well today i went off to school and rushed back home and watched them until it got dark.. Whilst it was raining.. Bless, this morning they were a little confused about where they were.. And didn't want to come out for the rain.. They had a treat the morning.. Hot mash! They loved it.. With some mealworms.. Mmm.. I didn't get any picys today.. But i will tomorrow.. Oh and they had sent there selfs off to bed.. So that saved me getting frozen.. Just a quick question.. If anyone has a bluebelle, black rock and/or amber star.. What colour eggs do they lay.. I was looking at there ears today and the ambe rstar has white lobes.. Does that mean she will lay white eggs..? I would quite like to know who lays what.. Thankyou.. Abigail Grace
helenmb
My Amber Star and Bluebelle both lay brownish eggs but Blanche has red ears - pic below. The colour does vary from day to day sometimes they are quite brown and round and sometimes they are a bit paler and more pointy. Eggs do get paler and paler the older the hen is too. Does your look like her? Pearl

I think my black rock may becoming into lay as she has quite a red face and has a bigger comb than the others yet she is awfully younger..?!? She is about 21 weeks old.. The other two are about 27weeks or older.. This morning i had Pea eat from my hand.. But my Pixie wasn't allowed to come near me otherwise she would get a peck of Pea.. And Betsy is quite wary of me but when she got the chance she came and took a big mouth full.. I want more! They are lovely! I think i am saving for a cube! -- That's a little bad really as i just got the eglu but hey.. Abigail
helenmb
I found that Blanche's speckles got darker as she got older, we got her at 16 weeks and she was almost white but as you can see by the picture she has developed quite a few brown bits now. Agreed though that her ears a def red.
Chook n Boo Mum
Blanche looks just like my Snowdrop! She was almost white when we got her too, and has developed more speckles as the weeks have progressed. All of my chooks lay lovely anything from paler pointy eggs to rounder slightly darker ones, and now they are all about the same size (the eggs not the chooks!) I can't tell which one lays which! Sometimes they are quite rough or speckly too just to add to the confusion! Once all my flock have arrived in my garden I shall have even less idea about who has laid what !!! Laura&Sean
Congratulations Abi, I'm so happy for you, I have two amber stars and they both lay nice beigy coloured eggs, if yours are 27wks old I presume they will be laying now?
