Is it just my chooks?

Recommended Posts

No not just you!

Only had ours 2 weeks and they are really quite obsessed with hands/fingers. The worst one so far was Tinkerbelle got the fleshy bit of my hand between my thumb and forefinger!

Its worse when you are not expecting it and they get your little finger from behind your back!

Also opening and closing the cube run door is like running the gauntlet for me!

Bless them

Mine will peck at fingers and fingernails

They even pinch tissues out of my pockets if they can see a bit poking out

Worst one is when you accidentally drop whatever treats you have in your hand onto your feet and in between your toes when you have flip flops on......... :anxious::anxious::anxious: That hurts!

:D

Mine went through a phase of doing that. They seem to have learnt that fingers aren't for eating now though....

They do recognise the Dried Mealworm pot though, and the treat bowls. They walk to heal better than a dog when I have either of those in my hand!!

I must have gentle chickens.

Mine are obsessed with my wedding ring (has lots of diamonds) and the tiniest flash and they will try to get it.

They also try to eat freckles on my legs, and peck at my toes, but it does not hurt. One got an ant off my toe the other day (I'm in Oz, it is summer, I'm not wondering around bare foot in the freezing cold lol). Funnily enough they have not once tried to eat hubbie's toes.........

My newest ladies love anything red and I am rather partial to ruby toenail varnish in the summer so that is always fun  Shiraz is the worst offender for red stuff. Also anything shiny, rings buttons, zips, fastenings on shoes have to be pecked just in case.

The worst is Volty though who loves pecking hair! If you're even vaguely in a position where she can reach your hair she's in there!

I made the mistake of giving them some grapes while they were in the nest box, now its really dangerous when I check them at night. They are fine bit later so from above posts I hope they will give up.

I hardly ever give them treats so they are just nice friends when out of the run but my OH gives them grapes, sweetcorn etc and they go wild when they see him. He's too scared to go face to face with them so feeds them from a window. Will he listen to me - NO. He did same with cats now every time he comes in they are a pain, he thinks they love him but at least they don't peck him. :D

My girls charge up the garden whenever they see me carrying anything in the hope that it's a treat :D

When I feed them corn from a cupped hand Coco tends to try to drill a hole through my palm in her enthusiasm but she is a BIG girl. None of them go for my fingers however, but I don't wear nail varnish (OH's department) so maybe that's the secret :?

One of mine Daisy is the greediest one of my ladies and pushes everyone out of the way. She doesn't mind-corn or my fingers!! I could swear she almost smiled when I said ouch earlier!

Both Isabelle and Ruby are well mannered and gentle thank goodness! :D

Oh yes , Esme practically rugby tackles you as you walk through the door, and I make a point of going in empty handed a lot so they dont always expect food, but it makes no difference

My lot are like this too and recently have taken to try and take off to fly up to my shoulder (not managed this quite yet) for tuna which they absolutely love. Am giving them some tuna at the mo as I have one girlie who has just started feather eating. Thought she might need a bit of extra protein.

Toes are always popular too so careful in the summer if you have sandals or flipflops on  must look like really big juicy worms!!
