Jillus
I have just been out to check on my doves and I found a two or three week old baby dove frozen on the ground under the dove cote. Poor wee thing must have fallen out of the nest box last night. I did not even know that we had babies so it is doubley sad. I don't know if the mum dove is on another chick as they usually lay two eeggs but with the weather so bad have doubts if another will make it anyway. It is so cold I am surprised it was incubated at all.

SAB
Tragic. I am sure there will be a lot of birds caught out by the weather this year.
Yorkshire Pudding
Lots of our wild birds were starting to nest last week. This week they are all too busy trying to stay alive in the cold. My garden is teeming with them as we put out lots of high calorie food and water for them. How sad to find that little one dead, but I fear you will be right, there will be many more caught out. Jillus
I had a good look in and there was only one baby but last week we found an unhatched egg on the ground so imagine that would probably have been baby number 2. The adult doves do not seem too perturbed and today despite the cold there has been a lot of courting and more going on!

Jillus
My lovely doves have hatched out two of the ugliest little baby doves imaginable. Ugly Ducklings have nothing on them. It is so nice though and I am so excited!! At last things are looking up for the dove flock and we have another dove sitting on two eggs as well.
