chick
I have thought long and hard and we are jolly well going to do it! Green Eglu, to be ordered next week. Walk in run - kids' wendy house bites the dust! three hybrid chooks - start date 19th April (we are on hols until 18th but otherwise I would get this sorted and installed next week! The wait is going to be horrid! Any suggestions from anyone? I am worried that the chooks are going to poo all over the garden but I'm not that concerned - what is the poo situation with chickens? I gather they poo mostly at night - or did I just make that up?! Have just re-sent to conkers and jennifer regarding seeing their eglus - my mail just stuck in my outbox though I have no idea why. Excitedly, Sally x

Excitedly, Sally x Congratualtions! you really wont regret it Chickens are just the best. Remember its not a 'wait' its preparation and planning time 3 chooks shouldn't be too bad with the poo situation, and with a WIR that will be reduced and you could even consider netting off sections at a time if needs be. As for the PM's they will sit in your outbox until the recipient opens it up from their end. Its a way of knowing whether your PM has been read or not. Once its not there, its been read I am not sure the excitement will wear off so, in the meantime have fun on the forums, browse the shop and plan, plan, plan

chick
Thanks! I have to say that this is possibly the most supportive forum I have ever come across - the samaritans should prescribe chicken therapy! off to plan then ......... s
Hen Watch
Congrats on making the decision. You won't regret it. what is the poo situation with chickens? I gather they poo mostly at night - or did I just make that up?! Err...... sorry...... poop all the time. In fact you will be surprised at just what they can achieve sometimes. But you are having a walk in run so they will poop in their own area. And if they do free range, well then you will soon be joining the rest of us with the end of day "flick it in a bucket" routine. Sad to admit but you will soon realise that actually, it is quite theraputic in an odd way and chicken poop is not as disgusting as cat/dog poop. If my kids step in it, it doesn't worry me in the slightest. I did used to let mine free range the entire garden at first but now they live behind Omlet netting and just free range their own bit. So less area to poop pick and the children can play football without the chickens jumping in their way.

SLK69
Mmmmm, Pre-chickens I too read that chickens mostly poop at night - now I am not so sure - This may be chicken propaganda put about by chicken owners intend on world dominance. We have had our chickens nearly 12 months now, through all the seasons and I couldn't possibly revert to my old chicken-less ways. Gamebird
Congratulations. I'm afraid they do poo a lot - all the time in fact. During the short, winter days a lot of the poo is in the house but during the long, summer days most of it is on your lawn. However, it's all worth it.
