theherd123
Mel it usually take about 2-3 weeks to kick in properly so i would make sure you are giving her the treatment dose and see how she is in about 5-6 weeks time. Im sure you can hang on that long - just! Did you try just the valerian treatment too? That one has a quicker impact!
Mel (& Paul)
(shhh - Minky's a boy - no wonder he has issues......... ) We got the tablets from dorwest and they are skullcap and valarian tablets - one in the morning and one at night. theherd123
Having used these tablets before personally i would up the dose to 1 with breakfast & 2 with tea. I would also use the valerian treatment just before HE goes to bed.

Karen & co.
Don't know if you want to spend more money on Minky, but we ended up calling Bark Busters out for Alfie I've never given up on a pet before, and this tme it was me who picked him at the rescue kennels It is pricey, and you feel a bit of a turkey with some of the training methods, but they do work it didn't seem to amke any difference reading the small mountain of dog training books that we have collected, but someone in the lounge telling us what to do and if it was the best way seemed to do the trick, and they will come back for a year to sort any other problems that crop up free karen x

Mel (& Paul)
Well I've had a look. They dont have any trainers in our area but I think that most of the things they cover have been covered by the behaviourist, trainers us and advice from TheHerd (thanks Emma). It was worth looking at though and thanks for thinking of us

The Dogmother
Too right girls! The hardline is working with our kitten Biscuit, who has been very well behaved at night until Phil stays at weekends. I don't know whether he resents another male in the house, or if he has cottoned onto the fact that Phil can't stand disturbance of any sort when he's asleep. But he had taken to jumping in Phil's head at night After lots of stern talk, he is now behaving and learning what isn't acceptable - takes me back to toddler taming! Mel (& Paul)
We have reached a really difficult conclusing. Minky is going to go as we just cant cope any more with the lack of sleep. Unfortunately none of the drugs / herbal remedies or suggestions by the vet / behaviourists have changed him and we really think that he needs to be the one and only dog of a retired person who can give him all the attention he needs. We have made contact with a Shih-tzu rescue charity who are hppy to take him on and rehome him with the best person . Whilst we are sure that Minky is happy we know it is not 100% of the time. He needs us around 24/7 and we cant do that because of our work and other committments. He is a much better behaved dog, much fitter than when we inherited him from Pauls mum and I am sure that he will give someone all the love and companionship that they need. We are very very sad and I would say this has been the hardest and worst time we have had to go through since Paul's dad died Jan 2005 and his mum died December 2006. We are both sitting here in tears as we dont want to let him go but I htink he has to go for his and our sakes. Thanks to all of you who have been so supportive of us, both in connection with this and with the death of Paul's mum You have all be great
Paola
Oh Mel *big hug* You really have done the right thing. Will they keep in touch to let you know how he is getting on in his new home? Keep your chin up Px
Mel (& Paul)
Hi When he is rehomed we will not know where he has gone and his new owners wont have our details. However we can write to "him" via the charity and if the new owners respond they do so, again through the charity. I know over the last few months there has been more than enough when talking about Mink, but we are both so and feel that we have somehow failed him
