Gardening with chickens...

Recommended Posts

... is a definite challenge!

Not least because we spent so much time laughing at their antics, we didn't get an awful lot done!

Step 1: Pick up Spade to dig hole for new (chicken proof  ) plant

Step 2: Ginger comes running over, with Fred in hot pusuit

Step 3: Put spade in ground

Step 4: Chickens start jumping up and down with excitement

Step 5: Lift spade up, complete with earth and Ginger on top

Step 6: CAREFULLY lower earth and Ginger onto ground, while Ginger eats all worms can find in the dug up earth

Step 7: Try again to put spade in hole have started to dig, only to find Fred already in there - eating worms

Step 6: Ginger in eagerness to find ALL the worms in the waste pile, flings all the earth back into the hole on top of Fred

Step 7: Start all over again...

Wouldn't be without them!!!

My 3 chooks are certainly more hindrance than a help when I'm lobbing the compost across the garden - just because they were in one spot when I pick up the heavy forkful doesn't mean they are still there when I turn to fling it off across the garden! They look very miffed when wearing a liberal sprinkling of compost :anxious: I'm so glad the Battie & Orpies can get out there yet, I'd never get anything done :wall:
