Well, as the biggest chatterbox on the forum, I suppose I'd better get the ball rolling, so to speak! I get the feeling that James has added this section for the benefit of Lesley, Nicola, Sarah and myself so we ought to get it started, hadn't we, Ladies?

 

Do you feel that your life has been enhanced by the arrival of your feathery friends???

 

 

 

I must admit that my girls are more pets than livestock. My youngest comes home from school every day and the first thing he asks is "How are the hens" and he's out there cuddling them and chattering to them!

 

I think they're smashing pets because they are cheap to keep, lovely to look after and the eggs are a smashing bonus.

 

Add your comments and don't make me look a bigger fool than I already am, won't you!

Yep, I started out as a moderator and that's what I am again now, Fred. I hung up my super site admin pants last year and leave it to James and Jerry now.

 

The nesting box started because we could never stay on topic in the other parts of the forum (nothing's changed, has it ) so James gave us the NB to natter in .

How many users were there when this was posted?

Oh gosh, I don't think there were very many regular posters then. Lesley, Nicola, SarahJo and I were probably the highest posters at the time. I remember Motherhen was a reuglar in those days too before her work with the guide dog puppies kept her off the forum. I can't remember whether Sheila had joined by then but I know she was an early regular too. I remember Glowing Sheep used to post a lot then, as did Parmaviolet and Imogen . Imo's still posting but I haven't seen Glowing Sheep or Parmaviolet for a while now.

 

The forum initially consisted of a Chickens section, an Eglu section and the survey forum but I think that was it in the early days. We used to regularly take over topics on serious subjects and go off on a tangent . Poor James got so frustrated that nothing ever stayed on topic that the nesting box was created to give us somewhere to waffle off topic to our hearts content .

Remember Dan used to use the "thread de-railed" later on in forum history, to keep us all on "track".

 

Motherhen was lovely - always good sound advice, and Shiela was always reliable with a cuppa

Louise was an early contributor, but no longer has access to a PC. and Sammi, but her husband came home after a work absence and we haven't seen her since.

 

I can't imagine the forum without a Nestbox now. Although it could have just been called the chocolate & pants section.

 

At least we always stay on topic now

Yes, that's right, Sheila. Louise joined round about Christmas time that year and Sammi was great fun. I miss her and haven't heard anything from her for years now.

Back in the early days the forum was quite a small place, very cosy & chatty and, I suppose because the regulars were so limited in number it actually used to be easy to keep up with everything going on...unlike these days when it all seems to move so fast

 

I joined quite a lot later than Kate, Lesley & all, but remember some of those early regulars quite well

I still feel that the forum is a cosy place because although there are many users, you know that every topic will get certain members replying, i.e egluntine, Lesley, Snowy etc.

Yes, the Nesting Box was added after we (particularly Kate and I) were told off by James for going off topic

 

Kate and I used to PM each other with ideas (mine were pinched off another forum usually) for threads when it all went quiet!

 

There were actually times when we struggled to keep things moving

 

Hard to imagine now when we can't keep up most of the time

This is nice, it was small when I joined in April 05, we all sat here nattering and got nothing done I discovered the beauty of dust, not much has changed since these girls arrived. Dust is good for you

 

Now I suppose all the new forum members are all discovering the same things
