WitchHazel
I had an email from Ebay, which I hoped was a spoof, to say that a third party had accessed my account and had used it to send emails to other Ebay members without my permission. I was unable to log into my account so, of course, I assumed the worst. Fortunately, it wasn't that some toerag had gone in and taken over my account, Ebay were alerted to the problem and suspended my account and emailed the affected members to say it wasn't me. So, I then had to go through the process of changing my Email info, getting my account restored, and I'm now going through the tedious process of changing my passwords everywhere else as well. Fortunately my Ebay password was unique (so I didn't use that one anywhere else), but you can't be too careful. I do know that it could have been much. much worse, but it's still not very nice. Fourbecameeight
This happened to us and our account was taken over along with the email account and the person started selling expensive phones at a discounted rate using the good feedback record on the account. It took ages to sort out. We were so worried that people would be sending them money. When we got the email back we emailed everyone who was bidding not to send money as it wasn’t us. The trouble with ebay is it’s hard to talk to anyone.
WitchHazel
I know I', so lucky it was only emails and nothing more sinister or expensive. I;m just at a loss to know how they got in; Ebay won't tell me, as they need to keep confidential how they discover these things. I'm very internet aware, so don't click links in emails, always check the address of websites, etc. The trouble with ebay is it’s hard to talk to anyone. I was quite lucky. I used the support phone number, and the chap there told me where to find the livechat option. I was then able to livechat with someone while we got it sorted out. millymollymandy
Hi i have just spent the last hour trying to sort out a similar thing. Someone had used my account to try to sell cheap dvds I am not sure what they get from doing it but it was very annoying trying to sort it out. I found out when i couldn't log onto ebay, i thought i had forgotten my password so asked to get it resent, nothing arrived and then i worked out my someone had also got into my hotmail account and blocked all emails from ebay so i didnt get emails to say my ebay password had been changed. It is all sorted after ages on live chat. The worrying thing was that as well as blocking ebay emails they blocked HSBC emails, luckily by chance i have just closed that account but it does make you wonder what they can get from your email account. So a warning if you use ebay log in regularly and read the alerts!!
stoice
I had similar when the first i noticed was someone opening a grievance proceedure aginst me for not paying for an item they had sent. Someone had broken in to my details. Changed my delivery address and 'bought' two phones through my account. Luckily my paypal stopped the transaction although i had set it up to direct debit from my current account i now have it via my credit card instead as a little extra security. Changed all my passwords, revarified my account. Took ages and I must say, I'm a lot more scared of ebay now. I've no idea how they did it as I'm usually so carefull about phishing scams and never log in to anyway from a link just in case. Rah. How frustrating for you. WitchHazel
Thanks guys, in a strange way its helpful to find out that other people I know (well, you know what I mean) have been similarly caught out.
Shirl
It has happened to me twice. The first time my password was very insecure so I changed it to ihave7chickens which I thought had to be a really secure non guessable password but it happened again. The second time they didn't hack my email though (proabably because it had a different password). The second time it happened it was all resolved within about 3 hours of them taking over my account so it was really painless.
MedusA
I had someone hack my Paypal account and buy stuff using it, but fortunately Paypal sussed them out and alerted me, so I didn't lose anything. I had to unfreeze my account, but I was thankful that they spotted it. Sorry this happened to you, but at least eBay spotted it for you too.
