Mrs Frugal
Kate, do you think that the antiseptic spray would be just as good without the lavender, and extra tea tree (or something else) instead? Been told to avoid lavender, due to growing bean, and I LOVE the green cleaning recipes everyone posts here! They're just the ones I like Shona. You can put in what you like. Lemon, tea tree and any of the other citrus oils are good at busting bacteria so put in whatever you fancy. My kitchen spray is lemon and tea tree and smells lovely. Tea tree alone would be fine too. Guest
Thanks for that Kate! I'm going to make a batch up with lemon oil, as I love citrus smells, and it stops the cat jumping up on anything that it is sprayed on! Can't beleive I didn't think of doing that before! Laura007
i was wondering if anyone might have any idea's to solve a little problem. we have a bog upstairs and a bog downstairs, now the downstairs one is lovely and clean but the upstairs one is very prone to limescale in the u bendy thing. most of it comes off but within a week or so its limescaled again. i find this a tad odd as the bog downstairs has no problems like this ever!! does anyone know of a miracle cure to get rid?? its not like we have a hard water supply AND a soft water supply. thanks what a random question this is. Sheilaz
A while ago I used a "green" thing that, when kept in the cistern, stopped the loo needing cleaning! It really worked..a block or balls that stop the limescale particles from sticking. For several months I didn't need anything else other than a few drops of Ecover toilet cleaner. I can't remember what it's called or where from, but someone will know! Thanks Laura, you've reminded me I need to buy a couple. (when I remember what!) Our upstairs one forms limescale faster too
Mrs Blue Sky
While you're waiting for your green thingy you could either put in a cup of white vinegar overnight once a week, or 2 steradent or similar, or use Ecover's Limescale Remover. All of these work for me, we have hard London water, which one I use depends on how keen I feel. I'll be watching this thread because I want one of those green thingies too! Sheilaz
.... we have hard London water....makes a great cuppa though, doesn't it! I'll be watching this thread because I want one of those green thingies too! I'm good at half remembering things! Heatherx
Lesley
Be careful with 'things' you put in the cistern - they can wreck the plastic fittings. They're a plumber's best friend because then they can charge the earth for replacing all the fittings
barnabydaisy
just been reading this thread and have gone mad and ordered loads of essential oils and will start to clean the house, the chickens house, the rats mice houses more eco-friendly! thanks miriam and jason
Mrs Frugal
Good on you. Hope you're not disappointed. I love all the recipes and haven't bought any commercial cleaning products for a couple of years now so they must be OK . The beeswax polish is my favourite - it's satisfying to make, smells divine and works a treat!
buffie
Thanks Kate I have now made my first batch of polish and doesn't it feel good to have made it myself! It smells so clean and it was easy! BBx

PurpleHen
Just came to check these recipes as I'm about to make up some new batches of product. I came across a comment about using white vinegar instead of conditioner for clothes - but can't find the bit where it says how much to use. As we have lots of washing to do today and we've run out of Ecover conditioner - can anyone tell me how much vinegar to use Thanks
Lesley
You've probably finished all your laundry by now Jackie - I have used vinegar a couple of times but revert to Ecover conditioner because I like the smell. I used about 2 tbsp. of vinegar.
PurpleHen
I did one load - then came back and checked I probably used about that much, and decided to add some Lavender as well - they have come out great. But at least I can measure it properly for the rest of the loads Thank you
clare*
I just guess how much I just slosh it into the dispenser. I then put some soda crystals in the machine as well and a very small amount of powder or liquid.
PurpleHen
Might try the Soda crystals too. I have to say - we did three loads yesterday with vinegar and a few drops of lavendar oil - and they all came out the same as if I use Ecover conditioner.
