theherd123
Well we have a date for Isabelle's big day but now need to choose some hymns. We would like Immortal Invisible as its a bit of a tradition to have this hymn at family events but we need a few more suggestions, can you help? (Of course you can, you are Omleteers!) Just to help, i'm not keen on Morning Has Broken or All Things Bright & Beautiful - they both remind me of bad singing at school - all out of key and sounding like a dirge
bigmommasally
Oh - I love All things bright and beautiful especially when children are singing it. How about Sing Hosanna or Lord of all Hopefulness or Jesus loves me, yes I know. I think whatever you choose I think they need to be fairly well known ones so that everyone can join in. I love christenings they are such happy occassions and not so stressful as weddings. Hope you all have a great day. Snowy
We had this one for both our boys dedications: It's a wonderfully rousing tune as well! God sent His Son--they called Him Jesus; He came to love, heal, and forgive; He lived and died to buy my pardon; An empty grave is there to prove my Saviour lives. How sweet to hold a new-born baby And feel the pride and joy he gives; But greater still the calm assurance: This child can face uncertain days because Christ lives. And then one day I'll cross the river; I'll fight life's final war with pain; And then as death gives way to victory, I'll see the lights of Glory--and I'll know He lives! CHORUS: Because He lives I can face tomorrow, Because He lives all fear is gone; Because I know He holds the future And life is worth the living--just because He lives! Jesus friend of little children God has given us a book full of stories Tell me the stories of Jesus Jesus the Lord said I am the bread Lord Jesus Christ, you have come to us All glory laud and honour Angel voices ever singing Praise my soul the king of heaven Let all the world in every corner sing O worship the king, all glorious above Now thank we all our God Let us with a gladsome mind Love devine all loves excelling Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine I could go on and on.........! Hope you find something you like
Guest
Hi Emma, when is the special day? For a Baptism, we often suggest: As the deer pants for the water There is a Redeemer Will you come and follow me? O Jesus, I have promised Be still for the presence of the Lord Take my life and let it be Abba Father I, the Lord of sea and sky I'll go in the strength of the Lord It is a thing most wonderful Let the beauty of Jesus be seen in me Be Thou my vision Seek ye first the kingdom of God That's not an exhaustive list because what you choose is a personal choice and it depends what you want to say. I have an extensive collection of hymn books and resources, so if you would like more help with choosing or with finding words, let me know. I'd be very pleased to help. xx

Alis girls
I dont know how old your child is but my eldest was 2 when christened and the vicar asked if he had a favourite song. At the time it was "if I were a butterfly I'd thank u Lord for giving me wings..." just a thought , speak to person doing service if not sure. We had "all things bright etc" at wedding and christenings.
Guest
I know that version Snowy. It's quite folky and makes it a reallly haunting hymn.
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
We used to sing one at Sunday school called 'Do you want a pilot?'. It was quite jolly and easy to sing - child-friendly. Not that pilots are Biblical. It was a bit nautical themed. But it was good as a Christian tune. I always love Wade In The Water as well - not a hymn, it's gospel, but kind of appropriate. 'Seek ye first the kingdom of god and his righteousness' is quite a nice hymn. It's the one with all the alleluias in the chorus. Immortal Invisible sounds like a good name for a superhero TV series. I hadn't thought of that before!
Aunty e
Ooh, Be thou my vision is lovely. Did anyone say Guide Me, O thou Great Redeemer/Jehovah ? Everyone knows that tune and it's jolly.
theherd123
Thanks so much everyone there are some brilliant suggestions there. Most of them i recognise and some have given me a great 'blast from the past' and reminded me of the school choir i was in I will have to see if i can find the ones im not familiar with on YouTube before we come to our final decision! Hi Emma, when is the special day? We have opted for the 24th May as Christenings dont take place during Lent and its worked out quite well as its the start of the half term break i think. That's not an exhaustive list because what you choose is a personal choice and it depends what you want to say. I have an extensive collection of hymn books and resources, so if you would like more help with choosing or with finding words, let me know. I'd be very pleased to help. xx Thanks so much Ginette, very kind of you. The reason we are getting Isabelle Christened is that she will be brought up in faith and the start of her journey will be a huge celebration for us as a family so we want this to be reflected in the hymns we choose but also we want the congregation to be familiar with the ones we go for and sing loud and clear. Anymore suggestions would be most welcome
Guest
Emma, that sounds so lovely. I will give it some more thought and see what I can come up with. If you have any trouble finding any of the hymns, I am happy to send words for you to look at. (I can also record the music for you if you need it. I can email MP3 files)

craftyhunnypie
I'm not religious but I do like the following:- Lord of the dance And.... Hark a hundred notes are swelling loud & clear, Tis the happy birds (chooks) are telling Spring is here. Nature decked in brave array, Cast those Winter robes away. All Earth's little folk rejoicing, Hasten greet the glad new day. Oh & I like that song from the film Babe - farmer Hogget sings to the pig.... If I Had Words If I had words to make a day for you, I'd sing a morning golden & true I would make this day last for all time then fill the night deep with moonshine If I could make a day for you I'd give you a morning golden & true I would make this day last for all time.. then fill the night deep with moonshine Emma.x
PurpleTree
We didn't have any hymns for either of our son's Christenings. They were both private services with just family members, so not many of us there. I love Shine Jesus Shine though, it's one you can sing really loudly. Mrs Frugal
Ollie decided that he wanted to be christened when he was 10 so chose his own hymns and he picked one which the vicar suggested and which I used to love to sing as a child - "When A Knight Won His Spurs". I don't know if it's suitable for one as little as Izzy but it's such a lovely combination of words and music.
