Single hen

I've just been out to the garage to take new pics of my big chicks who were 6 weeks old yesterday. I know for sure I have one cockerel, one or two others I'm not sure about so I thought I'd ask here for your opinions. No particular breeds, they're from a mixed flock, eggs bought on Ebay. Definitely some Cuckoo Marans in two of them though!

number 1 looks like a buff sussex or uff columbian wyandotte, 3 & 5 look like cuckoo marans to me

Agree with the others.............Chick 2 looks like she's going to be very pretty - lots of colours going on there. Be sure to update with more pics!

But does anyone want to guess if they're girls or boys? I've a feeling two of the others might be. Of those two I'm about 75% sure they're girls but I'm interested to know what others think.

I'm reserving judgement about chick 5 but it looks like the others might be girls.. congratulations

1 agree that 1 looks like a Buff Sussex and 2 and 5 look like cuckoo Marans or even Speckledys.

 

4 looks like an Amber Link.

 

I'm not entirely convinced that no 5 is a girl either.

I'd say numbers 3 and 5 could be boys in addition to no. 1 because of the size of their crowns at this age

Chick 2 is my very favourite, such lovely colours but I reckon a boy with those swoopy feathers but very soft face so ?

I'm not even going to try! - our last hatch all looked like hens......we knew that would be very unusual so we waited. It was about 16 weeks before we knew we had 3 cockerels and 2 hens

I'm totally confused by chick 2 Feather sexing suggested it was a girl, she feathered up really quickly, massive tail, and we were convinced and called her Poppy. But she's carried on growing at a rate of knots, is now even much bigger than Wally and has gigantic feet. No head gear though.

 

Chick 5 I was sure was a boy. Feather sexing said he was a boy, he was slow to feather up so we called him Paxo as he was going to be dinner. But as the weeks have passed I'm beginning to think maybe it is a girl. Somebody on another forum says he has the colouring of a Marans cockerel so maybe he still is a boy.

hi there - the marans look a bit like mine did when they were little - I'd say chick 3 is a girl as she's darker and 5 is a boy as he's lighter. If he's anything like our Bruce he'll grow to be a magnificent fella !!!!
