The Dogmother
Most of our animal poo goes on the compost, but I put any really twiggy stuff in the garden bin.
MedusA
Wheelies are a darn site better than fox and cat ripped black bags with rubbish strewn everywhere. I agree. Our street looks like a rubbish tip on collection day. I think ours is the only black bag that doesn't get ripped as we're a vegetarian household and I'm able to compost the very little food waste we might get (such as slimy outer leaves that the girls won't touch). Valkyrie
I'm not sure how the new houses in the village manage - they have no front gardens at all. A new development where there is no room for cars, and the front doors open into the street. Portishead is even worse! We have a green plastic box for glass (non broken, although they tip it all in the truck and you can hear it all smash and some spills onto the road). We have a blue recycling bin which can have plastic, card, paper - even the phone books and tins. But not all plastic is allowed even if it has the number and triangle on it - which seems silly to me. We do have a big black wheelie bin for most grotty stuff. Finally, we pay extra for 2 green garden waste bags, I think it is something like £40 per year, although a lot of our stuff goes in the compost bins at the end of the garden. Wouldn't it be far simpler if everywhere did the same and there would be no mistaking things. It is so silly with one council doing something and people living across the road in a different "area" have to do something completely different. Plus the EU is so stupid - the Spanish just bung it all in one huge bin and it's collected every day - so they have different rules then?! Oh quickly - pull me off my box! Tiggy
We are on the crux of 3 counties here and all have differing recycling provisions They don't colect glass here and we have to take that to a recycling centre. There's a fabulous idea at the Te$co near my folks - they have a recycling centre where you pop your clubcard in the slot, then post your recycling in the appropriate slot and receive points for everything you recycle.... keeps rubbish off the streets too as enterprising folk are scouring the streets for recyclable gubbins to gain extra points! I wonder whether they plan to roll this out to other stores? ooooh I shall have to check this one out - thanks Claret
